I am trying to go back one more generation. Looking for Catherine Lupicka who was married to Joseph Mazurska (sp) and Adam Majka who was married to Julianna Wasik. All of them would have been born in the mid 1800's. Cities associated are Babrka, Mielec, Baranova.

Hello nadmaj,

>> Cities associated are Babrka, Mielec, Baranova.

Babrka. I think this is today called "Bobrka, Ukraine". http://www.geshergalicia.org/towns/bobrka/
I found some immigration records for "Babrka" that stated the people were from "Babrka, Austria" which could also mean "Babrka, Galicia/Austria". "Galicia" existed during the Interwar Period (for I think about 25 years; and contained parts of today's Poland + Ukraine + maybe Belarus?). I guess before we had the Internet, we had Interwar. Smile You can see how "o" and "a" could be of similar spelling/pronounciation. I think, today, this is called "Bibrka" in Ukraine language (note that Ukraine and Russian languages are a little different). It is located within 10 miles of of the city of Lviv/Ukraine (previously called Lwow/Poland).

Mielec. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mielec
This is located in Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland. It is about 100-120 miles to the west of Lviv/Ukraine.

Baranova. This is probably today called Baranovo, but there are several of them in Poland. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baranowo
It might help if you can narrow which Voivodeship(s) the "Baranova" you are searching within (it would likely be in eastern or south-eastern Poland -- nearer to the 2 other cities mentioned).

However, for Baranova, it might mean this one:
http://www.geshergalicia.org/towns/baranow-sandomierski/
This is located about 15 miles north of Mielec.

I think this helps to narrow down the 3 cities/villages you are seeking, so we can narrow down to find the parishes near to these 3 towns looking for records. I will do more record searching later (today or tomorrow).. but for now have some other work to do.

Nadmaj,

Here are some LatterDaySaints microfilms which cover Mid 1800s:

Go to: https://familysearch.org/catalog-search
type in PLACE = BOBRKA (or Mielec, or Baranov)

1) Bobrka Metrical books, 1784-1945. Roman Catholic Church records (births, marriages, deaths) for Bóbrka (Bóbrka), Galizien, Austria; later Bóbrka (Bóbrka), Lwów, Poland; now Bibrka, Peremyshli︠a︡ny, L′viv, Ukraine. There are gaps in the years covered. May include surrounding villages within the parish. Text in Latin and Polish.
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/261132#?availability=Family%20History%20Library

There are several microfilms that cover births during mid 1800's, but the main one seems to be this film #2004876 which is an INDEX of births. If you find the names/births in the indexes, then you'll know the date/year and can use one of the other films in this collection to find the actual birth record for that person.

2) Bobrka Metrical books, 1835-1917. Greek Catholic Church records (births, marriages, deaths) for Bóbrka (Bóbrka), Galizien, Austria; later Bóbrka (Bóbrka), Lwów, Poland; now Bibrka, Peremyshli︠a︡ny, L′viv, Ukraine. Text in Latin with some Russian and Ukrainian.
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/1413594#?availability=Family%20History%20Library

These are also available to view online, here: https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1910265
Then you click on "browse through the 900,000 images", and click on GREEK Catholic, and click on BOBRKA.
Then you click on the BIRTHS for the years that you want to browse.
Microfilms are also available to order of the Greek Catholic records.
If they were not Greek Catholic, then you can ignore this #2.

Here is a WEDDING record that contains all of the people you are seeking. Maybe you have seen this record already?
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XVP9-8PB
and
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-12130-5519-89?cc=1618491

It is a June 13, 1915 marriage. (Record 1703, married in Binghamton, New York)
Groom is "Joseph Majka", born ~1891 in "Baranow Poland".
Groom's father is Adam Majka, born in "Poland"
Groom's mother is Julia Wasik, born in "Poland (Austria)"
Bride is "Rose Mazurska", born ~1896 in "Bobrka Poland (Austria)"
Bride's father is Joseph Mazurska, born in "Poland"
Bride's mother is Catherine Lupicka, born in "Poland"

Because Julia and Rose both declare they are born in "Poland (Austria)", the use of "Austria" it makes it likely they were born in Region located between Lviv/Ukraine and Mielec/Poland, because during 1915 (date of the wedding) this region was considered part of the Galacia/Austria/Poland region.

I suggest that since you know Groom/Joseph is born in "Baranow / Poland" in ~1891, look for his BIRTH record. It will likely have the age of his parents (and maybe locations of their births). At least you will know the parent's birth years, and this will help you to narrow down your search.

Same for the Bride/Rose. You know she is born ~1896 in "Bobrka Poland (Austria)", so find her ~1896 birth record to find the age (birth year, and possibly birth location) of her parents. Rose's birth in Bobrka is probably found in LDS/FamilySearch Microfilm Roll # 2004877 (Index of births 1882-1905), and could be in Microfilm Roll # 2395690 (Births, marriages, deaths 1891-1901)

This might be a false lead.. but on FamilySearch.org, I searched for "Joseph Majka" born 1890-1892 and there are many listings. I don't know if he ever lived in Buffalo/NewYork, but if he did this might be his 1917/1918 War Draft registration:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1971-26511-24257-79?cc=1968530
It says he has 2 kids and a wife (I don't know if Joseph and Rose had 2 kids born within the 1st 3 years of their marriage or not).
It if is him, he lists his birth as being on October 8, 1890 and in "Austria, Galicia, Austria" but does not say "Baranow/Poland"

For Groom/Joseph (born in "Baranow / Poland" in ~1891), The familysearch.org site has church records, but they STOP at 1884 so they won't have Joseph's BIRTH record in 1890/1991. But here is the link for that Parish:
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/results#count=20&placeId=69726&query=%2Bplace%3A%22Poland%2C%20Rzesz%C3%B3w%2C%20Baran%C3%B3w%20Sandomierski%20(Tarnobrzeg)%22&subjectsOpen=625239-50

There are 5 Microfilms in the collection. https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/348065#?availability=Family%20History%20Library

Film 948427 has the Marriages during 1802-1883. Assuming Joseph was born in 1890/1891, and if his parent's marriage (Adam Majka and Julia Wasik) was to be found here, it would mean his parents were married for 7+ years before he was born to them, so he would likely then be a middle-to-latter child of birth order.

Other thing you could do it try to find the BIRTH of ADAM Majka in these records. Making a guess that Adam is 20-30 years old when Joseph is born means you could look for a BIRTH of an ADAM Majka during the years 1860-1870, and for that you would use Film 948426 (Akta urodzeń 1841-1877). Problem is that you might find multiple Adam Majka's being born (and will not know which one is the correct one), or you might not find Adam's birth at all.

If Joseph was naturalized as a US Citizen, you might want to look for his Petition, because it might have more useful information in the Petition.

Here is a link to the Polish National Archives for "Baranów Sandomierski":
http://baza.archiwa.gov.pl/sezam/pradziad.php?l=en&mode=showopis&id=24533&miejscowosc=baranow
But, again their birth records are only for years 1869-1884. But there is an email contact listed

And here is the Wiki of the town: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baran%C3%B3w_Sandomierski
"After the Partitions of Poland Baranów found itself in the Austrian province of Galicia, where it remained from 1772 until 1918"
and, "Furthermore, frequent Vistula floodings caused extensive damages, and on August 24, 1898 almost whole town burned in a fire. Its decline was so severe that Baranów lost its town charter in 1896, remaining a village until 1934." Maybe some of the birth records were lost in the fire/flood???? But maybe copies still survived some place.

Here is the town's website:
http://www.baranowsandomierski.pl/
http://www.baranowsandomierski.pl/pl/0,125/125/ (says 1500 people live there today)
There is a FORUM and CONTACT link.. maybe ask if anyone knows where 1890/1891 birth records are to be found, and/or asking if anyone knows/remembers the Majka family name from 1900+ ??? There might be decendants of Majka still living there...

... for example it seems there is a Joseph and Mary Majka living there today (see photo caption):
http://nadwisla24.pl/2014/03/21/tarnobrzeg-obchodzili-jubileusz-zlotych-godow/
They are celebrating their 50-year wedding anniversary, so probably they are 70-75 years old (born ~ 1939). This Josef/Jozef might be a 1st cousin (or great nephew) of the Josef/Adam Majka you are seeking.

If I were you, I would post a message to their village forum (or email the contact: [email protected]) and provide a link to the Anniversary photo in your message, and ask if someone can help you to contact the Josef Majka that is in the photo. It is a town of only 1500 people, so someone, Mayor, etc can probably find/contact him! In your email tell them you are doing Geneaolgy research on the Majka name in "Baranów Sandomierski". This Joseph might be able to give you a lot of help in finding/photographing (and sending through email) copies of various birth/marriage records for Adam Majka, etc.

And here is the Parish page for today: http://www.baranowsandomierski.pl/pl/0,6/6/ (for history, and possibly contact).
