I am trying to trace my fathers family in Poland my father Anthoni Barwina born May 22 1920 came from Byslawek Tuchola North Poland. He was in the Polish army 2nd Corps, 3rd Carpathian Rifles he fought at Monte Cassino. He stayed in UK after the war and settled in Flintshire North Wales. I do not know much of his family as he died 15 years ago and rarely spoke of them or the war. I think he had 6 brothers 1 sister not 100% the names Alfons. Edmund, Zygfryd who died in France during the war aged 22 ,Bernard,Jan,Bronislaw (Bruno). His sister .Their parents names were Joannes and Anna his sister moved to Germany and married a German . I have tried unsuccesfuly for 4 years trying to trace possible family members . But you never give up hope . Anita

You are lucky. Barwina is a rare name in Poland.
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/barwina.html
This gives a map showing the location by county (powiat) of the Barwina respondents in the 2002 Polish census. There were a total of only 61, distributed:
1.Tuchola (16)
2.Sępólno Krajeńskie (14)
3.Szczecin (10)
4.m. Bydgoszcz (9)
5.Chojnice (7)
6.Bytów (3)
7.m. Kraków (1)
8.Choszczno (1)
As you can see most live near your father's birthplace.
If you google Barwina, most of the results will be on your relatives.

Information on gmina Lubiewo in which Bysławek is located (use google translate).
Try writing an email there asking for help in finding relatives.
lubiewo@las.pl
Do it in both Polish and English. Provide as much information as you have. You could also do this for neighboring gmina. |

Hi, Anita.
I also posted a reply at the other site. My computer broke down that's why it took me this long. Can we get in touch through e-mail?
Do they allow us to post our e-mail here? |
