Does anyone know if there are records available from the late 1800's to the early 1900's from the Ostroleka Parish or area around the current Gmina Lelis. My families came from the villages of Olszewka, Obierwia, and Siemnocha. The LDS only has parish records/films available from the late 1700's. Military records or population records (census) records would also be helpful, but I have been unsuccessful in my search. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Al Wierzba

Hi again Al,

Unfortunately, all the vital records form the time before 1945 from Ostrołęka parish was burnt by Germans....

I have read on one of the Polish forums that some of the books from the 19th century may be kept in Berlin in Geheimes Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz.

There is also a book Cmentarz Parafialny w Ostrołęce (Parish Cemetery in Ostrołęka), by Czesław Parzych published in 1997 r.

The author, Mr. Parzych is a member of Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Ostrołęki (Society of Ostrołęka Fans) http://www.tpo.ostroleka.pl/ which seems to be very active in preserving and promoting local history and culture. Among other things, they currently work on a book 'Historia Ostroleki wedlug rodow' (History of Ostrołęka by Families).

Hi Zenon,

Thanks for the information and links. I did see the book called Cmentarz Parafialny w Ostrołęce by Czesław Parzych on Worldcat, but I need to see if my local library would process an International interlibrary loan. Also, I'm going to reach out to Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Ostrołęki and find out any information I can about my ancestral villages. Those links you've provided may be just what I needed to further my research. Thanks again Zenon!

Al
