For those of you who have access to the NBC channel in Northern America, a new „Who Do You Think You Are?" series starts tomorrow (Friday, March 5).
In Europe, we have had the opportunity to watch the English BBC original version of the show for several seasons. I have been waiting for each Sunday night for the new episode of the series to see what will happen to the next British celebrity. I think I would wait even though they were not celebrities because the family history journey of each of us may be so fascinating and often so surprising. As the executive producer of the show, Lisa Kudrow, says in this TV interview here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/35686782#35686782 : “There are huge surprises for everybody which couldn't be scripted. No no one of the 7 celebrities knew where the journey would take them.”
Together with our guests while traveling through Poland we often experience the same - the life itself is writing the most interesting scripts
Here below Lisa Kudrow in Poland calling her possible relative in one of the series episodes.
I want to quote one sentence from the official NBC announcement of the WDYTYA series:
“It's (…) a great excuse to gather your family on a Friday night to watch an interesting story unfold and then talk about the ancestors who paved the way for you. “
So, Tune in Friday nights at 8/7c starting March 5, 2010.
I am very curious about your impressions (I will not be able to watch it in Poland )
And remember: You don't have to be a celebrity to experience your own "Who Do You Think You Are?" family story journey to Poland with PolishOrigins.com!
From the opinions of experts, as well as "regular" viewers, I read on the Internet, the first episode has received a very positive feedback. According to many experts, the show was not only entertaining but also educating. It was as an excellent example of "how to search your family tree the proper way."
I also came across information that tomorrow (March 9) Lisa Kudrow, the executive producer of the series as well as one of the 7 celebrities, will be guest on the Oprah Show and will be talking about the WDYTYA series. More (including short video): http://www.oprah.com/showinfo/Celebs-Dig-Up-Their-Family-Secrets .
WDYTYA eposide no. 2 with Emmitt Smith, former NFL footbal player, this Friday at 8/7c.
Emmitt Smith sets out to discover his slavery roots. He will travel across the U.S. and all the way to the African coast to reveal important answers about his slave ancestry — and his own identity. Lisa Kudrow calls Emmitt's episode the most compelling of the seven.
WDYTYA eposide no. 3 with Lisa Kudrow this Friday (March 19) at 8/7c.
This episode of "Who Do You Think You Are?" is special for Polish, or in general, eastern European descendants. Lisa Kudrow is traveling do Belarus and to Poland in search of her family roots. I don't know the details of this episode and how it ends up but I know that she is trying do contact Polish relative while being there (or here ).

I did watch this program last night, boy I really cried. This is kind of very sad stories but I wanted to know what happened at 1942 to 1947. I found out my grandmother's relatives were killed by Nazi too. I think my relatives were either Jews or Cathollic. My cousin took the pictures of cemetery Monuments picture of all Waksmundzki who will killed.
I recommend everybody to watch this program. It is worth it.
Now I feel I need to hire someone to do my research too. I am not rich like Liza Kudrow.

Right now I am trying to read messages that I missed. I enjoy visiting your PolishOrigin very much.
Hopefully I get better, I think I overdo with my excercises.
I will be watching this tonight. I think it will be good one.
I remeber Mathew did play this movie of Glory years back. I am wondering what did he find out. He looked surprised.
Who will be on this Friday? It look like it will be rerun. I hope not.
This is correct, NBC changed WDYTYA episode schedule:
The updated schedule is as follows:
- April 9th – Sarah Jessica Parker (Repeat)
- April 16th – No episode
- April 23rd – Susan Sarandon
- April 30th – Spike Lee
But there is also a very good news, official statement: The American NBC version of "Who Do You Think You Are?" has been renewed for the 2010-11 season!
But don't worry if you miss it (or missed any of the previous episodes), you can watch full versions on-line on this website: http://www.nbc.com/who-do-you-think-you-are/video/ (in only you are connecting to the internet from the US).
The final episode of the first series on NBC today at 8/7c. Filmmaker Spike Lee travels to Georgia to find answers about his once–enslaved ancestors — and then visits Texas to meet a descendant of his family’s former slave owner, a woman who is most likely his distant cousin.
