Post subject: Woniska
Does anyone know what this town is? I can't find it on the map and it was listed on my grandfathers death certificate.
Thanks

Barbara,
The death certificate is typed or handwritten? It is in polish, german, russian or english?
Have you already find their arrival on ship manifests? Did they have Social Security?

Dear Gilberto,
The place Woniska is listed on an American death certificate. I can not find any travel/ships with their(either grandparents) names on the manifest. What next?

Barbara,
What is the surname? Do you have an approximate date of arrival?
SS appliation form may contain their birthplaces.

My gradfather's first name was Matthew (I don't know who to spell it in Polish) His first son, I believe was Anthony.
I was told they left one son behind, Kasmir.
Thanks

I think you refer to Maciej = Matthias, though some genealogical sources states that Matthew and Matthias are the same.

One more thing. In slavic languages, sometimes the letter H has the same value as letter G. For instance, the place name Grodno is also presented as Hrodno. This seems to be specially true in places located in Eastern Poland. So, consider that maybe your ancestor can be found as Garasiuk (or something closer).
Good luck,
Gilberto

Gilberto,
I will look into that. It is just so unusual not to find anything.
