Any information about the surname of Kalus. Family appear to be living in Katowice during the early 20th century. No idea where it originated or if it is actually a Polish name. It has been suggested that the family may have originated from Ukraine because there is a place called Kalusz in the Ukraine.

Many thanks Gilberto and Aga. That's really helpful.

I'm actually trying to trace my father's family who were living in Szopienice in Katowice in the 1930's and 40's (and probably earlier). My grandfather Johannes (or Jan) I believe was the director of some coalmines in that area. He and his wife Elzbieta had three daughters, Ruth, Kristina and Hannah (Hanya) as well as my father Leonard. Elzbieta's maiden name I think was Wons or Has. I think I read somewhere that these two surnames were the same but one may have been Polish and the other German. Can anyone help?
