Research notes I did an ancestry DNA kit as well as an ancestry family tree. I discovered that my family originated from the Koniowka and Ciche area. Our Family names are Leja and Komperdo. The spelling of Komperdo I believe was changed at Ellis Island from Komperda.

My great grandparents are Marianna Leja DOB Dec. 1, 1881 in Koniowka, DOD Mar. 25, 1965 Camrose Alberta and Wojciech Komperda DOB 1885 Poland DOD July 26, 1941 Wetaskiwin Alberta. They were married in Chicago on Oct.18, 1905. They returned to Poland for a few years before moving their family back to Chicago where they opened a bar. They closed their bar during prohibition and moved to Manitoba, Canada and then to Alberta, Canada where they purchased 2 coal mines which they ran until Wojciech's death in 1941. The mines are listed abandoned but still owned by Wojciech. Wojciech's name was changed to George at some point, it may also have been while passing through Ellis Island but I am not certain.

Marianna's parents are Andrzej Leja 1851-1906 Birth and death in Koniowka and Regina Wiktoria Klejka 1856 Ciche -1923 Koniowka

Wojciech's parents are Jan Komperda and Agnieszka Rocha

Marianna was 1 of 14 children, her brother Andrzej emigrated to Quebec, Canada

Marianna and Wojciech had 9 children
