My Zembik family emigrated from Austrian-controlled Galicia in the late 1800s to an area just outside Hilo, Hawai'i. I know nothing of the family prior to their arrival to American territory, the actual area inside Austrian Galicia they came from, or the etymology of the name itself. I only know that the name "Zembik" could be either related to "Zabek" or "Szembek." I've heard both versions, however, from Americans outside my family, not from a Zembik. |
