It happened in [Krupe?????] on October 30th/November 11th, 1872, at 3 p.m.

There appeared Jan Fenske, a farmer from rumunki* Orłowo, 35 years old, in the presence of Marcin Ott, a farmer, 60 years old and Fryderyk Ott, a daylaborer, 29 years old, both living in Orłowo and presented Us a newborn female child, declaring that the child was born yesterday in rumunki* Orłowo, at 2 p.m., to his legal wife, Amalia nee Hofman, 23 years old.

At Holy Baptism, held today, the child was given the name Emilia and her godparents were: the aforesaid first witnesses and Ewa Miller from Będzin.

This Act was read to the declarant and witnesses, all oh whom were illiterate and it was signed by Us.

Superintendent Ignacy Bojer...[can;t read the full surname].

Cause of death query (cor?)

I’ve come across a little batch of records which seem to have ‘Cor’ as part of the cause of death and I have no idea what it means or its relevance, as it appears both in the originals and the bishops copy, and the deaths seem to be mostly children but the causes differ. In some cases, the cause of death in the original is simply given as ‘cor’ but the bishop’s copy adds scarlatina. But this word appears in pretty much every death entry for about 6 months, and then disappears and I haven’t seen it anywhere else in the records. Most of the deaths are ‘cur’ or ‘cur et scarlatina’ but not all, there is one ‘cur et convulsiones’, but where ‘scarletina’ is given as the cause of death elsewhere in the books, it’s not accompanied by ‘cur’

These are from 1875, the scans are on FamilySearch film 2037644, image 181 for the original; and the bishop’s copy is film 4945071 images 677 and 678.

Anna Landkammer d.28th Dec is one of the ones which has ‘scarlatina’ added in the bishop’s copy entry but not in the original.

It is quite easy to check these parish records. I would focus on the birth records. At that time, it was rare for a woman to be a witness at a wedding.

Karolina Helene Jabs was born in 1827 in Kepa Okrzenska and died in 1865 in Damb, Wielki Gleboczek, Kuyavia-Pomerania. Karl Wilhelm's parents are the schoolteacher Michael Zaleski and Gottliebe Liepke. He may have died in 1836 but it's not certain, and they got married in 1802 in Gollub, Briesen rural community. Karl Wilhelm's known siblings so far are Justina Saleski, who married Karl Baier, and Michael Saleski, who married Regina Rynass, and Friedrich Saleski, 1806-1807. I'm now looking for Michael's and Gottliebe's parents and the parents or grandparents of Karolina.

Hi,

I am having the same difficulty that you are having finding any websites that include gravestone photos from the cemetery in Wyszyny Kościelne (note the spelling). You can get a general look at the cemetery by going to google maps and using the "street view" to see it. I am attaching a screenshot of what that looks like. I would guess, however, that you want to see specific graves.

I will point out that the website for the parish has a section for articles, and there is one regarding the renovation of the cemetery chapel back in 2022. It consists of photos rather than text. In the photos you can see that there are names on plaques on the chapel which appear to be WWII era deaths, including one Feliks Masiak that I am also attaching a screenshot of. Is there a Feliks (in English: Felix) Masiak in your tree?

Next to each name is the letter L which refers to the person's age (for Feliks it was left blank) and then the year of death.

You may wish to contact the parish to ask whether the gravestone(s) of whomever you are searching for still exist. As you might already know, grave sites are rented and not permanent. It is not uncommon for rentals to last for 20 years and unless the family extends this, the grave site is re-used, so many of the older graves will not be found.

Hi Diane,
It is great that the information from Jan Ludvik’s birth record provided new leads. I don’t think the last two mentioned were godparents. The grammatical form does not seem to indicate that, and there are no commas between the names either. Perhaps the priest meant to write Mariana Sałacina, that is, Ludvik Sałata’s wife. I’m not sure. I have never seen 4 godparents in a Catholic baptism.
