Thank you, I will try that. I don't speak or understand Polish but I do understand German, so maybe that will help.

Tick the box "only with scans/tylko ze skanami" below the search box,

this site steer you to);

Type the place name you are interested in into the search box;

Click "Search/Szukaj"

See what comes up - there are lots of places that still have
nothing on line, it will probably take years for the online material
to catch up with the LDS microfilms, and even longer for the online
material to get anywhere close to what is available if you visit
an archive in Poland. But, you might get lucky, especially if you
have several places to try.

If you want a really impressive example of how much is online
for some cities, try doing a search for Lublin.

I imight suggest the Hamburg passenger lists for your relatives
who settled in Omaha, Nebraska. Perhaps they will reveal the original
place where your ancestor was baptized. I believe that your ancestor had a
surname and was baptized.

Are you aware of the Zosia system?
Last March more than 5 million scanned records were released.
Another batch is expected to be released next mid June.

Names are correctly spelled since those doing the indexing are Polish.

Remember that the Mormon Church at its Family Search website offers indexed records for Poland. Currently there are five collections for the dioceses of Częstochowa, Gliwice, Lublin, Radom, and Tarnów.

The collection for Tarnów is by far the largest with over 1,000,000 baptism records indexed. And these records are for the old diocese. Therefore, villages are represented from not only the former province of Tarnów but also the former provinces of Kraków and Rzeszów.

Surnames are often misspelled in the index. But I recently found my great great grandmother's 1844 baptism record even though I didn't know her birthplace. Her name was Anna Gawle and she was indexed as Anna Czawle. This allowed me to order the microfilm of her village's records. There I found her actual birth record and also her marriage record.

I have found it helpful in these indexed records to search a particular village year by year. Doing this, I was able to put together a family group when the surname was spelled many different ways in the index. And I found my great great great grandfather's baptism from 1799.
