This is my great-uncle, my grandfather's brother. He died before I was born. I understand he lived in Canada part of the time. I believe he moved back to Poland. When I was a little girl (1965?), I remember his daughter, Bernice Mlynarczyk, came from Poland and lived in Chicago for a short period of time. She eventually moved back to Poland and stayed there. I have wondered what happened to her and her family. She would be in her 90's by now.

MaryAnn,
Just by chance, when I was sorting files in my computer, I came across a record that might interest you: The church marriage record of Andrzej Truty from Dlugopole, son of Jan Truty and Cecilia Kulach, baptized on Oct 8, 1887 in Ludzmierz, and Wiktorya Brejak, daughter of Jozef Brejak and Anna Bielak, baptized in Ludzmierz on March 8, 1889. They were married on Oct 5, 1909 in Chicago. I'm attaching the record for you. I have Jozef Bryjak (from the house of Gabrys) from Dlugopole in my family tree, but he was married to Katarzyna Jakubiec.

Hi MaryAnn,
Yes, we have corresponded some years ago, and I still have your parents' wedding invitation list that you sent me. It turned out to be quite informative. Joseph Roll listed at 2443 N. Central Ave. was my grandfather's brother, and Madej, Bryjak, Szczurek, and Dlugopolski on the wedding invitation list are also in my family tree. The families that I have researched most extensively are the Bryjaks from Dlugopole. My grandfather Franciszek 'Frank' Roll, his brother Joseph Roll, and their sister Karolina Roll were the children of Rozalia Bryjak from Dlugopole and Jakub Rol from Banska (now Szaflary-Banska).

Great that you found your grandmother Agnes [Agnieszka] Zarecki from Chocholow, arriving on Mar 02, 1904, at the Ellis Island site! So she's indexed as 'Agweska Iorycka' -- this is one of the worst renditions I've seen. I'll add her to the list of Chocholow emigrants. I see that she traveled with 'Wetula, Maryanna' from Chocholow and that they indicated they were going to join a cousin 'Jozefa Kupa' [?] at 437, 25th St., Chicago. A 'Josefine Kupa' from 'Choepolon' arrived on Mar 20, 1899 in New York, having left Bremen on Feb 25, 1899. I had a look at the passenger record -- her last name could also be 'Krupa', the 'Choepolon' could be Chocholow, and she could be the cousin Agnes and Maryanna were going to join. Do you have Kupa or Krupa in your family tree?

So far I couldn't find a direct connection to your family either, maybe our ancestors were just friends from childhood on and had stayed friends and in close contact after emigration to the United States, but who knows?

                                      Mary Ann,
Thank you very much for the pictures and information on your ancestors. I very much enjoy looking at these old pictures and seeing the real people behind the names listed in the index of emigrants.

I looked for your grandmother Agnes Zarecki's immigration in the Ellis Island database to add her to the index of Chocholow emigrants, but she isn't listed at this site. Do you have her immigration information?

Your grandfather Frank Truty was from Dlugopole (like my paternal grandfather Franciszek Roll and his maternal ancestors)? Is he the Franciszek Truty (indexed as Franaczek Tuity) who arrived in the US in April 1903 at age 18 to join his brother Jozef Truty at 70, Front St., Chicago (see my index of Dlugopole villagers who entered the US via the ports of New York or Baltimore between 1892 and 1924 at http://polishorigins.com/public/resources/dlugopole_emigrants.html )?

Thank you again for sharing the beautiful pictures with us.
My grandmother Agnes Zarecki was born in Chocholow. Her father was Andrew Zarecki and her mother was Maria Anna Halas. I am attaching a picture of them with one of their granddaughters in front of their house approximately 100 years ago. The house looks very similar to the way the houses look now in Chocholow. Also attached is a picture of Andrew in a uniform. I don't know what type of uniform, but it looks like the Polish eagle on the helmet. I would be very interested to hear from others researching this town. Agnes married Frank Truty in Chicago. Frank Truty was from Dlugopol.

Our research friend Haloosia Rogalinska’s interesting picture of a balloon rise in the Chochololwska Valley in 1938 posted on Facebook has intrigued me to create a new thread on emigration from the village of Chocholow, Poland. Chocholow is one of the most beautiful old Gorale villages in the High Tatra Mountains, east of Zakopane, Poland:

See, for example:
http://www.local-life.com/zakopane/articles/chocholow-podhale
http://www.muzeumtatrzanskie.pl/?strona,doc,pol,glownaen,1448,0,332,2,1448,ant.html
Spring in the Chochololwska Valley: http://www.flickr.com/photos/petelickim/sets/72157604680171929/

When I checked the Ellis Island site I found 117 names of Chochołów villagers who entered the United States through the port of New York only. If you or your ancestors are from Chochołów and/or you have information, records, or photos to share about the village, please post a reply to this thread.
