I'm most interested in the side of my family that I know next to nothing about. My grandmother refused to talk about her husband's background. His name, according to her, was Joe Hill, and that was the end of the story. However, intense research reveals that the story is far more complex! Grandpa changed the name to Hill, and the original name was Gorzynksi. (It appears he may have translated it?)

My great grandparents, Marian (aka; Frank) and Frances (Franziska) Gorzynski emigrated around 1883, with an infant child named Honorata. They settled first in Nanticoke, PA, where Marian was a coal miner.

I have no idea where he came from, but much of my current research says that many of the earlier miners in Nanticoke came from Upper Silesia. I'd love to find out if that is possible.

I am also interested in any information what-so-ever on this name and its origin.
Thank You!
