Today is Friday the 13th, in Polish tradition (and I guess that it is not only the Polish custom) it is the unlucky day. I hope that you do not believe in this and it will be a great day for everyone!

To criss-cross the bad luck I have found the perfect photo from the collection of Ignacy Krieger's works: "The chimney-sweeps", picture source: http://www.wawel.net/krieger-ludzie-epoki.htm

In Poland, if you see the chimney-sweep, all you have to do is to catch up for a button (yours or someone's standing close to you, if you are wearing the unbuttoned clothes). The good luck is guaranteed!

Have a good weekend!

As promised in August, I would like to start a new series of the photographs. This time I will be choosing some pictures of Ignacy Krieger. There is an enormous collection of his works on the website: http://www.wawel.net/krieger-menu.htm. There are pictures coming from Kraków's Historical Museum and also from some private collections.

Ignacy (Isaac) Krieger was a famous photographer, author of numerous images of the city, its sights and most of all: the people.

He was born 1817 or 1820 in the village near Wadowice. It is not known where and with whom he studied photography. In 1860, after returning from a foreign trip, when he perfected his skills, he moved to Krakow and founded a studio. It was located in the yard of Grodzka street, number 88 (currently 13). He died in 1889 in Kraków, he was buried in the new Jewish cemetery.

He performed portraits, ethnographic and documentary pictures. His large scale photos of the sights of Krakow, are thr valuable source of information, especially about the unsaved objects.

To begin I have found such picture: "The passengers of the steam boat on Vistula river", picture from the end of the 19th century. Picture source: http://www.wawel.net/krieger-ludzie-epoki.htm
