Within today's Poland borders the closest similarly sounding in Polish is Libiszów. Very tiny village (about 30 persons lives there now) close to Polish - Ukrainian and Polish - Belorussian border, located about 140 miles from Pinsk, click here for map: http://bit.ly/7Q0BaF .

This Libuszów belongs (and belonged in 19th century) to Sosnowica parish. All Catholic books from this parish are kept in local church in Sosnowica. About Libiszów in wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libisz%C3%B3w,_Lublin_Voivodeship and Parish Sosnowica website http://www.parafia-sosnowica.cba.pl/index.html

As for emigrants, ships, passenger lists records I would recommend you to check Ancestry.com .

Don't get discouraged! My ancestors came from Odrowaz village near Nowy Targ, in the far south of Poland, and I found quite a few family records there. But my grandfather's Ellis Island record showed that his family was living in Luslawice village just a few miles outside of Krakow. I still have no idea why they were there, but that's where I found my grandfather's birth record - while all of the rest of the family records were in Odrowaz.

It seems like such a hard and impossible process when you don't know where to start, but you are in the right place. The members here are kind and were very encouraging when I began my search for my family. Keep asking questions and provide the clues that you have - you will begin to uncover answers to your questions. Good Luck!

                                      Hi!

Have you ever tried the Ellis Island Gold Form to look up name variations for surnames and villages? I have found it quite useful.

http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellisgold.html

One possible village name is Lubiczów, a very small village west of Warsaw.

I hope this helps!
