I started a thread for the village of Murzasichle in the section "Villages and towns of our ancestors' origins": http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=941 with links to pictures of Murzasichle.
In the Forum Section on Emigration you will find a list of villagers of the village of Murzasichle who entered the United States through the Port of New York (based on information given at the Ellis Island site):
If you have any additional information on your paternal grandfather Franciszek Budz and his parents Jozef Budz and Marianna Mrowca of Murzasichle that you are willing to share with us, please add it to this thread. Thank you!
Franciszek Budz was born February 22.1877 to Jozef Budz and Marianna Mrowca of Murzasichle
Karen Mellis of FTDNA (ZAMAGURIE PROJECT) did a lot of work and got this info recently.
she's wonderful
thank you so much

I'm happy for you that you got this information on your paternal grandfather's family with Karen Mellis' help! Thank you for sharing it with us. Would you like to tell us a little more about your Budz and Mrowca ancestors from Murzasichle, e.g. when they emigrated, where they settled, and so on?

Unfortunately, I don't have any info on the Budz and Mrowca families of Murzasichle, but I checked Jozef Bubak's books on the history of surnames in the district of Nowy Targ, and according to the research he has done in this region, the surnames BUDZ and MROWCA are very old Podhale surnames. BUDZ occurred in different spelling forms, such as Budz, Bucz, Buc, Budzak, Budzek, as early as 1614. It was found in 1614 in the Book of Marriages of the village of Zaskale; BUCZ 1633 in the Book of Births of the village of Gron; BUDZ 1634, 1635, 1640 in the Book of Births of the villages Zaskale, Bialka Tatrazanska, and Miedzyczerwienne; 1668 in the Book of Marriages of the village Gron; 1669 in the Book of Births of the village of Gron; BUCZ 1685 in the Book of Births of the village of Gron; BUDZ 1686, 1691, 1692, 1696, 1764 in the Book of Births of the villages Jurgow, Gron, Miedzyczerwienne, Lesnica, and Murzasichle; BUC 1769 Book of Births of the village Zaskale; BUDZ 1786, 1787, 1787 in the Books of Births of the villages of Bukowina, Bialka Tatrazanska, and Poronin; Matheus et Maria Budzowie (n.pl.) 1788 in the Book of Births of the village of Poronin; BUC 1794, 1794, 1798 in the Book of Births of the villages Brzegi; Bustryk, and Bialka Tatrazanska; BUCZ 1808, 1808, 1810 in the Book of Births of the villages Poronin, Murzasichle, and Zakopane; BUC 1810 in the Book of Births of the village of Murzasichle; BUDZ 1821 in the Book of Births of the village of Gronkow; BUC 1845 in the Book of Births of Zakopane; BUDZ in the Registration Books of Bor, Bialka Tatrazanska, Brzegi, Bukowina, Gliczarow, Gron, Gronkow, Lesnica, Koscielisko, Ludzimierz, Male Ciche, Murzasichle, Nowy Targ, and Poronin.

MROWCA was listed 1616, 1617, 1628 in the Book of Marriages of the village of Maruszyna; 1676, 1685, 1707, 1762, 1763 in the Books of Births of the villages Zab, Banska, Maruszyna, Olcza, and Zaskale; Mrowca al. Janus 1765 in the Book of Births of the village Zaskale; 1786 in the Book of Births of Bialka Tatrazanska and Zakopane; 1791, 1792, 1796, 1797, 1819 in the Books of Births of Murzasichle, Morawczyna, Dzianisz, Gronkow, and Poronin; MROWCZA 1844 in the Book of Births in Zakopane; Mrowca 1849, 1850 in the Book of Births of Zakopane and Kóscielisko; as well as in the Registration Books (ksiazka meldunkowa) of Bialy Dunajec, Bialka Tatrazanska, Bukowina, Gliczarów, Gronkow, Koscielisko, Lesnica, Ludzimierz, Maruszyna, Odrowasz, Stare Bystre, Szaflary, Wroblowka, Zab and Zaskale.
Hello Phil,
how nice that you got so much information on your Odrowaz ancestors now. I know how glad I was when I finally found out where my paternal grandfather and his ancestors came from -- after many years of research. My grandfather’s paternal ancestors were from Banska (near Szaflary), his maternal ancestors from Dlugopole, the next village over from Odrowaz.
The books by Jozef Bubak on the history of surnames in the Nowy Targ district are not available for sale any more, and they are in Polish only (which I don’t speak), but I'm willing to do lookups in the books if you are interested in a particular name.
Thank you for looking at this marriage record and decipering the handwriting. This is a marriage record of my great grandparents that Shellie has found. I have been trying for over 4 years to find proof that my ancestors were from Odrowaz with no luck and in 1 week I have discovered a ton of information. I have also found Habas surname and Habas gravesites in Morawczyna.
The Habas, Huzior, Trojana, and Stopka surnames all seem to be concentrated in the Nowy Targ region. I was not aware of the book that you mentioned and definitetly will need to get a copy.

Shellie,
I had a look at the record and what I’m reading is: Joannis fl. (filius) Blazei Chabas et Catharinae nata Huzior ex Morawczyna, agricola, and Rozalia, filia Andreae Trojana et Catharinae nata Stopka, agricola = Jan, son of Blazi (Blazej, Blazius?) Chabas and Catharina née Huzior from Morawczyna, peasant, married Rozalia, daughter of Andrzej/Andrew Trojana and Katarzyna née Stopka.

As to the last names Huzios/Huzior and Trojana: I’m pretty sure that it is HUZIOR. I got a copy of the books by Józef Bubak on the history of surnames in the district of Nowy Targ. According to Bubak the name Huzior was listed in the parish records (liber natorum) in Klikuszowa and Obidowa in 1741 resp. 1786 (alternative spellings Huzor, Uzior, Chuzior, but not Huzios).
The name Trojana occurred in Odrowaz already in 1787 (I cite: TROJANA: Triana Jakob, 1787, LN (liber natorum), Od (Odrowaz), cf. TROJAN.

The surname of Jan Chabas' mother looks like Huzios and I think the info beneath her name is her....village? Morawczyna? The word appears again in the last column after the second witness.

Would someone give me their expert opinion on the following:
The first name of Jan's father......Blarci?
Catherine's last name....... Huzios?
and the word beneath her surname (village name?) ....... Morawczyna?
Have you ever used the Steve Morse Ellis Island Gold Form to search?
http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/eidb/ellisgold.html

If you type in Morawc in the town section, you should get a list of people coming from your village (with several village spelling variations). I did it and noticed that there was a passenger surname of Huzio - very similar to the surname of Jan Chabas' mother.

I also find this to be a very helpful method for finding surname variations. I just showed another member how to use this form and he was very successful in finding his relatives.

                                      Hello Shellie,

This certainly looks like the marriage record of my great grandparents. THANK YOU very much. I have been struggling for 4 years trying to find some record of them and it was quite a surprise to see that you found it. I had almost given up hope of ever finding any records on them. THANK YOU again.
As far as the spelling of the names could be Blazci or Btazci ???
Surname might be Huzior?? I agree that the town is Morawczyna.
I wonder if this is the town that Joannis was from and maybe Rozalia was from Odrowaz?

THANKS,

I have a marriage record from Odrowaz, in Lesser Poland for Joannis (Jan) Chabas and Rosalia Trojana.

Morawczyna?

thank you - Shellie
