Thank you for the information. You people continue to amaze me with the quick answers and valuable information. The links will be printed out and added to the family "book". I am in the planning stages of a genealogy tour to Poland and can't wait to see this area as well as the Plock area where my Grandmother originated.

Absolutely!

When you take Google maps, then search for
Łomża, Pologne
Przytuły, Kolno, Pologne
you will see to the East a huge forest Biebrza National Park

The distance is circa 10 kilometers from Przytuly to this huge forest, it's very close.

Please note that Łomża city's coat of arms is a deer on the run

In the old Polish geography book (end of XIX and beginning of XX century) Lomza is described profusely, including as a famous place for hunting

My grandfather talked of a pristine forest very near where he lived. The Russian nobility used it as a private hunting grounds and also, they(Russians) had estates there. Is or was that near Lomza? (circa1900).

The document I have is written in English by a clerk in the records bureau at that time. My grandfather could niether read, write or speak english. He always signed his name with an "x" which was witnessed. His household spoke nothing but the Polish dialect their entire lives. As they say, here in the States, words were written as they sounded to the individual hearing them. This, Lomza, is the best lead I have had to date. I can't thank you enough for all your help.

I was wondering if you could upload the portion of your grandfather's document where he lists his last place of residence in Poland. I assume it is handwritten. I have a feeling that "Soniza" may actually be Lomza. In Polish it is actually spelt Łomża, which handwritten may look like Soniza. In that case, Elzbieta is right on the money as Kolno County used to fall under the Łomża Voivodeship (before the re-distribution in the 90s when it became the Podlaskie Voivodeship), which includes the village of Romany. Przytuły is part of Łomża County, but it is only around 7kms away from Romany.

On today's map:
Przytuły, Kolno, Poland
Romany, kolneński, Poland

Those two villages are less than 8 km distant.
Both are few kilometers distance East of Stawiski.

Stawiski is bigger that Romany or Przytuły

I imagine (I might be wrong) that your grandfather noted "Soniza" (or similar) for a village bigger than Romany or Przytuly, and close to them.
Not many villages in that area starting with letter "S", and I do not see how Stawiski could became Soniza.

Without a region it might be difficult.
We have one grouping Romany and Przytuly - 20 km distant, both North of Szczytno
Przytuły, szczycieński, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Poland
Romany, Poland

But it could be another grouping (Romany Przytuły).

Concerning "Soniza" - I cannot find any village name starting with "Soni" or "Somi", there is only half a page here:

Do you have other hints, other names of places, to determine the area of Poland?
