Isaac,

You will have to know where they came from... You can also use search engine on our Forum (at the top right corner of the page) to check if their surname already appeared there in the past. The last, and the most cumbersome method, would be to search letter by letter...

Hi Agnieszka,

If my grandparents were Jewish, how do I find the parish/synagogue in the "Indexation of Translations" list?

We have not been able to actively engage and promote this project in recent years, but it is still active and you can browse the indexes.
Indeed there was some technical problem, but we've checked it and it is solved. Please check the link: https://polishorigins.com/document/indexation, it is working again.

However I noticed that the link in your signature is not working - this is because of the dot at the very end of the address.

Thanks Aga! It's the least I can do for all the help everyone's provided. I've actually added the link to the indexing in my signature. Hopefully that will "remind" people to take a couple of minutes to update the database.

Dzień dobry to all our forum members!

During our summer touring season we've had very little time to focus on our indexation project and to think about any developments.
Hopefully now, in wintertime we will be able to continue our common work.

Have you already tried to index any translation made for you on our forum? What were the difficulties?
As always I am waiting for all your remarks. After some practice adding the new records to the index is simple, just try and in case of any doubts I will help you with pleasure!

Let me remind you the indexation project website: http://polishorigins.com/document/indexation

It would be prefect if you could try to index the records which are being translated for you in Polish, Russian and Latin translations section. Special thanks to Steve, who is consistently adding all records translated for him to our templates.

I believe that with enormous number of records from our forum has potential, step by step we will create from it useful database for all genealogists with Polish roots.

Steve,

The Russian records translations are indexed until the page 68, so please continue adding the new translations.
If you are not sure whether your record is already indexed or not, you can try searching it in the main database (use the combination of CTRL + F and enter the surname or place name in the small window that will open in the top right corner).

Recently there was not a big activity in our indexation project. Special thanks to Steve (pennst411), who is regularly indexing all of the recently made translations of his records.

All of the time we keep working to improve our project. We recieved a lot of questions concerning the indexing process (and still I invite you to write all your remarks and doubts here, or to the email: index@polishorigins.com).

To make the indexation easier for all of you, we have prepared the short video tutorial:

Under the letter W (and under any other) are 3 sections: Births, Marriages and Deaths (see at the bottom of the document).
Records from Warta are in Marriages section.

Dear Forum Members!

Thank you again for your commitment to our indexation project!
As you probably noticed, this week we had to modify the main index by creating multiple sheets. The former database extended the technical capabilities of one document.
Currently we have 23 different sheets for parishes sorted in alphabetical order: http://bit.ly/po_indexation

Last week thanks to commitment of Gilberto and Leonore we added the indexes of several microfilms from FamilySearch archives.

Last minute news: today we have added 90 new records to the index (46 birth, 12 marriage and 32 death) - thanks to Joann, who is constantly indexing Russian records translations section from our forum (and she has done 31 pages so far)!

Dear Forum Members!

It has been already 1 month since our indexation project started.
It is time for short recapitulation:

So far we have 1252 birth records, 1035 marriage records and 363 death records indexed!

There are records not only from our Forum but also from some microfilms available on FamilySearch.

We would like to thank all users who angaged in our project: Don, rsowa, Megan, Valerie, Helli.
Two forum members deserve special thanks for their regular commitment: Gilberto for indexing the microfilms and Joann, who to index the older translation from our forum (so far she indexed 14 pages of Russian records translations ans she keeps going!).

Thank you for your passion and dedication!

We also thank for all remarks and observations, we will do our best to improve the index and the whole growing project.

We look forward to all of you, who would like to take part in this project.

All suggestions are welcomed We have been working on a new version of our site and we will see if it is possible to implement a new version of Forum. However, my experience with different kind of forums (as user and operator) is that general structure of them is as we have it here. They are organized in threads (topics) and posts in given topics are presented chronologically. The latest are at the end of list of posts. There are different communication tools, for example p2 by WordPress, in which you have broader range of options when posting comments in a given post/topic but I think for our purposes traditional form of forum is tested and understandable for most people.

I think that good solution in this kind of forum we use is to quote post or part of it to which you respond. Please see my post below this one.

One of the objectives while creating assumptions to the Indexation of Translations project was to enable matching scans of original records with their translations. Now, when translation is indexed in one row of index you have link to both: original scan and its translations. You just clink on link in the 'Link to the scan' column and 'Link to the post with translation' and immediately you have in front of you the two most important pieces of information.

Thank you Christine for your comment and if only you have more please let us know. We do not guarantee that we implement all of them but for sure we will take them into account .
