When did Magdalena die? Do you have her death certificate?

The husband of my great aunt was born in Poland in 1876 and died in 1950. His death certicate had his SS# on it so I could request a copy of his SS# application - I was also looking for parentage info. By the time he applied for SS# in 1938, he had been in the states for 35 years and had just filed his Declaration of Intention papers in 1936. In 1940 Census he was not yet a citizen.

If Magdalena died before WWII or never worked, she may never have applied for a SS#, but it is something to consider. PL

Looks to me like you need to contact this Jenna Napora who posted the info. at TribalPages so you can find out how she found Magdalena's surname. This is a great start for establishing more info on the Naporas, but you don't know what her source documentation is, so it needs to be taken with some skepticism. ~PL

On www.stevemorse.org > Ellis Island Gold Form type Antonina Napora. It will return 3 matches.
Hers is the second. Click on the column Scanned Manifest and that will take you to the EI foundation (you will have to suscribe, for free).

Manifests (some) are displayed in two pages. The first mentions immigrant's last residence; the second mentions birthplace. That's how I found Magdalena's info. By the way, her SS-5 Application form should contain her parents names and surnames.

Bronislawa and Jedrzej were born in Ruda, so I believe the marriage took place there, too.

Kazimierz and Antonina in the image attached.
A painful task that may get you some results: on that Rzeszow records page, note down every surname related to the Napora families. Then return to the search page, type one surname at a time, and see if there is any Magdalena who was born about 1876.

Antonina was brought to the USA by a Kazimierz Korylick. I thought he could be her uncle, but he declared he was just her father's friend.
On Ancestry I found an Ellis Island detainee list with “Mag'a Napore” discharged on Aug. 26, 1909 at 10:30, there were 3 people in her group, it appears they may have been detained to wait for a RR ticket from her husband Jan at 96 Howell St. Buffalo NY Black Rock area. For meals they received 6 breakfasts, 6 dinners, 6 suppers, so it sounds like they were detained for 2 days (Aug.24-26, 2 meals for each person). Doesn't help with her birth surname, but tells you a little more about their journey. ~PL

Thank you very much, Elzbieta, Gilberto, and PolishLibrarian!!!

I see now, Gilberto, that I had the wrong record of passage for Jan. I am certain now he is the Jan who arrived 5/20/1905.

Can you tell me where you found declarations for Magdalena regarding her daughter and her birthplace?

Antonina did follow the family to Buffalo, New York. I had been aware of her, as she appears on the New York State Census with her family in 1915. I see that she arrived at Ellis Island March 29, 1910 and lists Tuszyma as her last residence.

With your help in narrowing the search to Tuszyma, I have located record of Jan's birth and family by using the link on http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?p=1480

The birth record search suggests Jan Napora was born in Tuszyma 7/11/1870 to Michal Napora (parents: Tomasz Napora and Rozalia [Hylinski]) and Anna [Kazala] (parents: Michal and Malgorzata [Lydo]). He had a younger sister Maria Napora who died before the age of one year, and a younger brother Andrzej Napora.

However, the marriage records search suggests Anna [Kaczala] married Michal Napora in 1872, which would have been after Jan's birth according to this source. When he married Anna [Kaczala], he was widowed after marriage to Rozalia [Barnaś] (parents: Szymon and Katarzyna Gawryś). I will try to look further into this confusion, but I have no benefit of Polish language so doubt I will get far.

I will continue to hope for information on Magdalena Napora born in Rydzow, as I would like to find her maiden name. I understand Rydzow is a tiny village.

Thank you again,
In checking Ancestry immigration indexes I found many Jan Napora's, but specifically 3 that look promising – the first may be the one that heidiacollins found, although the year is 1903 not 1905, and he's going to Rochester NY, not Buffalo.
1. Jan Napora, 34, b ~1869, departed Rotterdam (line 11) on SS Statendam, arrived May 20, 1903, from Alexandrowsk, going to step-brother in Rochester NY
2. Jan Napora, 23, b ~1880, departed Hamburg (line 6) on SS Pretoria, arrived May 2, 1903. from Austrian Tuszyma, going to uncle Wincenty Napora in Buffalo NY
3. Jan Napora, 34, b ~1871, departed Rotterdam (line 18 ) on SS Rotterdam, arrived May 20, 1905, from Austria Tuszyma, going to brother Andrzej Napora at 23 ??? Str in Black Rock area of Buffalo, NY

heidiacollins~ ages of Jan #2 & #3 are about 8 years apart. Hopefully you have a age/birth date for your great grandfather as a starting point or you have immigration records confirming his arrival year and ship to help narrow down which Jan might be yours. Hope this helps. ~PL
My paternal grandfather, Frank Napora, was born in America (Buffalo, New York).

Frank's father was called John Napora after he arrived in America, but I believe he was "Jan Napora", and he arrived in America in 1905. I believe I have found record of his passage through Ellis Island. He listed his nationality as Russian, his ethnicity as Polish, and last residence as Alexandro. I believe he was born in 1868.

Frank's mother was Magdalena Napora. I have found record of her passage through Ellis Island. She listed her nationality as and she arrived in America with their young son Tedrej Napora (called Andrew Napora in America) and daughter Bronislawa in 1909. She listed their nationality as Austrian, their ethnicity as Polish, and last residence as Ruda, Galicia. I believe she was born in 1879.

It would be very nice to learn Magdalena's maiden name, and have some clarification as to whether my ancestors came from what is present day Poland, Ukraine, or otherwise.

Heidia,

There is 43 Aleksandrow in today Poland, and 101 Ruda (roughly one third in former Galicia) according to http://mapa.szukacz.pl/
Distribution of the name Napora in today Poland shows 3043 persons
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/napora.html

In the old geography book (territories much larger than today Poland) circa 200 Ruda's are listed, starting at the end of this page
http://dir.icm.edu.pl/pl/Slownik_geograficzny/Tom_IX/883
The entry for Aleksandrów starts with "nazwa bardzo wielu wsi i osad" - a name of many villages and settlements
http://dir.icm.edu.pl/pl/Slownik_geograficzny/Tom_I/27

Today, two well known Aleksandrów are:
Aleksandrów Łódzki
Aleksandrów Kujawski

When you google searching for "Aleksandrów, Napora" there is a number of results showing a person named Napora living in any of the two Aleksandrów.

37 Aleksandrów listed in Wikipedia
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleksandr%C3%B3w
46+ Ruda listed in Wikipedia
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruda_%28ujednoznacznienie%29

More hints are needed to determine places of your ancestors.

Best,
