I am trying to help my second cousin locate her paternal grandparents places of birth. The first document I located was her grandfather's brother's WWII Draft Registration which list his place of birth as Dziamonty Poland. After some research I believe this would be in what is now Belarus. I then ordered her grandmother's Petition for Naturalization which states her place of birth as Dziamonty Poland also. It also gave information on her arrival on 21 Jun 1907 on the SS Garf Waldersee under the name of Adolfina Lapzawa (transcribed as Lapzowa on the Ellis Island site). The ship manifest lists her last residence as Wilna Russia, Poland and her place of birth as what looks like Dziamonty.

There was enough information in her grandmother's petition for us to order her grandfather's paper which included a declaration of intention and petition for naturalization. On the declaration he lists his place of birth as "Jwio" Russia Poland and on the petition he lists both is and his wife's place of birth as "Jivio" Poland. Although this paperwork states he arrived at NY on 24 Mar 1902 on the vessel SS Baltimore, I have been unable to locate a ship manifest for him.

Since receiving his paperwork I have been trying unsuccessfully to find a connection between Dziamonty and "Jwio" or "Jivio". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know of any records available online for this area?
