I am pretty sure most of you have accessed the JRI Jewish Records indexing web site. If not I would definitely give them a shot. They brought to my attention in their info that they have up to 5 million more people listed that are not in the LDS in Salt Lake city. They already have the new Holocaust info. I honestly never expected to knock down the brick wall I have had with my grandmother for years until the computer pointed me to a collection in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum because we were Catholics. What a surprise! CAROL
You can search in this database the names and biographical details of half of the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis. And if you know the victims of holocaust you can submit Pages of Testimony and send photographs of the victims so they will always be remembered.

HERE is additional info for USHMM http://www.ushmm.org/
I discovered the museum also has records of Poles. Russians, gypsies who were picked up and were NOT Jews. Most records are digitized and records were emailed to me in 10 minutes. I could not believe it. SEARCH THE COLLECTIONS. Additionally there is a form you fill out to see if they have more information on the person. If the person was Jewish they may have as much as 10 pages. If they were not Jewish they might have 1 or 2 pages. For those of you hitting brick walls you may find answers you did not expect there. The person who emailed me the info even translated it for me. They were very nice. You can call the REGISTRY OF SURVIVORS RSEARCH REQUEST 1 866 912 4385. THE UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM 100 RAOUL PLACE S.W.

I have received from Genia and Kengal (thank you!) a bunch of information about current status of availability of Holocaust Records.

Genia wrote that people can go to BadArolsen and search there directly (there are groups from different organizations which organize and plan to go there personally) or,

submit a form (can be found on YadVashem website) for every person you are enquiring about and send it to the YadVashem in Israel,
http://www.yadvashem.org - look for ITS

or the USHMM, with link http://www.ushmm.org/its

Its worth reading about the process on both these sites.

And news from Jan 18 from one of mailing list:

----
On January 17 the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) began providing information from the International Tracing Service (ITS) archive, formerly located only in Bad Arolsen, Germany. The archive contains information on about 17.5 million victims of Nazism, Jews and non-Jews, and consists of 100 million images of documentation.

The archive is not machine searchable. Researchers from the Registry of Holocaust Survivors will assist persons seeking information from this file. Requests may be made by email, regular mail, or fax. Researchers can also visit the Museum to access the material.

Information on the collection is available at www.ushmm.org/its or by calling 866-912-4385.

----

Kengal sent me also relevant article in which there is also mention about Institute of National Remembrance in Warsaw: http://www.topix.net/content/ap/2008/01/museum-provides-detail-from-nazi-archive
