Zembik accordingly to Hoffman's "Polish surnames" is from Polish ząb- “tooth”.

Hi!

Your theory could be right, just like Garbacz may come from Gorbach.
Many polish surname have a german-like origin.

I noticed there are still some Zembik still living in Poland.

Hello all,

I'm searching for any information on the surname "Zembik." I have heard opinions and read stories, but none of them from within the family itself. Possible links to "little tooth" (surnames like "Zabek" and "Zombek") to a possible relation to Szembek (originally Shönbeck) or simply its own name unrelated to others. Anybody know of this names etymology? Thanks!

My family were Latin-Rite (aka Roman) Catholics and left Austrian-controlled Galicia in the 1880s and settled in Hilo, Hawai'i.
