Thank you this is potentially big news my 2nd Great grandmother was born in 1864 in Troki to Noble parents Jozef and Marcjanna (Rogowicz) Fronckiewicz. So seemingly one of these must be my 3rd great grandfather Jozef?

Also, I know how busy Ryszard with the constant translations I appreciate it. Not to look agift horse in the mouth (I know Russian Documents are not your speciality) but could you see if this marriage record from Troki in 1863 is a Fronckiewicz in particular a Jozef Fronckiewicz and Marcjanna Rogowicz marriage. It is the second one down. A whole translation is not necessary just want to know if it is them or not.

Dziekuje Bardzo,

Hugh

Hugh,

It is so blurred that almost impossible to read. Maybe a native Russian speaker could recover some words with his knowledge of language, as I can do with Polish, so please ask on Russian translations.

In the record 14, I see:
Large left column:
Date: 1863 year, April 14 day.
Large middle column:
Дворян = Nobleman
Fronckiewicz Jozef, age 21? from Zascianek Gerwazy and Ewa Stan??
Waszkiewiczow, age 19

In other words, I do not see Marcjanna Rogowicz.
Please note this record is not from 1864.

Zaścianek = village with nobles residing there,
Zaścianek https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Za%C5%9Bcianek_szlachecki
Many thanks following your advice I have fianlly got the viewer working and have been using certain lists on the site. I was just looking at the trakai 1844 nobility lists but am having trouble with reading the last names. I don't know if you read Russian but I think I found an ancestral name and possibly a first name.

Here's hoping either you or one of my other compatriots can read cyrillic. If not I will certainly post on Russian language page.

I Think that it is the name Fronckiewicz but can be certain (cyrillic cursive is not my thing)
I followed your advice and being that I am a bit of a novice when it comes to computers doesn't help either. Looks like as of now the trakai 1844 lists are of limits. You said you could view the list was it is Russian or Polish........just curious.
The Nobility List works for me.
Go to internet options/privacy/sites to see if genealodzy.pl is being blocked. Change to allowed.
Open properties/compatility on djvu and run compatibility troubleshooter.
The above is for Windows.

                                      Hello All,

I can remember back about 6 years ago, when I started looking into my Polish heritage that I assumed when I got back to the village(s) of origin they would be in what is now called Poland. Needless to say I was very naive about the history of Poland and the surrounding countries. It was a land that has seen many changes in border and many wars and lots of strife in general. It is a land of proud people who have experienced tragedy unlike most places in Europe.

I was shocked at the time to find out my ancestors came from an area referred to as Kresy they came from the Wilno-Troki districts of the old Russian Empire. In my limited searches I found very little information (in English) on the Wilno/Kresy region so I figured I'd ask here on the forum if any of my Polish Origins friends could suggest any media book, articles etc, on this region of the "Old Poland".

A dear friend and contributor here, Elzbieta suggested I put this out on this part of the forum to see if anyone has anything to offer. Also as an aside soes anyone have roots from the Wilno/Kresy area?

Thanks so much,

Hugh
