Hi everyone,

Thank you all for the insight you have provided regarding my search for juniszcze, horyn, stolin Belarus.
I have found a map on www.kami.net.pl/kresy/ which shows juniszcze and horyn the rail station, within 4-5 kilometers of stolin, and all within minska gubernia.
I have attached the maps with this email, and have a question about how to find the church in stolin, part of pinsk diocese, parish stolin narodzenia nmp .

am I on the right track ?
Hi elzbieta,

I saw juniszcze, belarus and horyn, Belarus outside of minsk on bing maps, my computer uses bing to power some of its services, Microsoft corporation, using the name earthstar geographics is part of the logo in the lower right portion of the map. stolin, Belarus on this system is near the Ukrainian border. distance is what baffles me. I am not good at interpreting the distance from stolin on the Ukraine border to minsk. but I did try bing maps , their latest version and this takes
you to the same locations that I have been viewing.

the oral history I was referring to, the descendants of the denik/denig family passed on the information that the family emigrated from Germany and settled in the area around minsk, the sons franz and ernest being born in stolin, 1882,1884 and the daughter Helena being born in 1892 in horyn. previous to birth of sons beginning in 1882 , the parents august and anna had lived in Germany.

I hope some of the information is helpful, but it seems like I am in the right neighborhood, now I just need to find the right church or archive.

Larry,

You wrote "oral history passed down indicates" they moved to Minsk area. If that oral history is from another continent, then you refer to a big city, which might be quite a long distance away of your village.
It could be also Minsk as "Minsk gubernia" or Minsk governorate, which is very large, country size.

All villages you mention are close to Stolin, Belarus, near Ukrainian border.

Stolin is over the river Horyń, which goes north, to the bigger river Prypeć.

The political status of territories in that area have been changing over time.
I was lucky with someone quoting Encyclopedia Britannica's map of Belarus, easy to see:
http://www.bakerbluminfamilytree.com/maps_minskguburnia/belarus_map.gif

NB: where, on which map, did you see "Juniszcze, Belarus" on the outskirts of Minsk?

Best,

Larry,

Let me add to Gilberto's explanation:

Stolin:
in old geography book (1880-1900)
http://dir.icm.edu.pl/Slownik_geograficzny/Tom_XI/361
…
Gmina stolińska sklada sie z 5 okregow (starostw) wiejskich, ma 312 osad wlosc.
...
W sklad gminy wchodza: Bielohusza, Chotomla, Juniszcze, Mankowicze, Otwierzyca, Rzeczyca, Stolinek, Terebiszcze, Widybor i Wikarewicze.
// The community [Stolin] is composed of villages: Bielohusza, Chotomla, Juniszcze, Mankowicze, Otwierzyca, Rzeczyca, Stolinek, Terebiszcze, Widybor i Wikarewicze

Stolin in Polish wiki:
https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stolin

Today:
Stolin, Brest Region, Belarus
==
The passeport is precious, because it clarifies the name: it is SIPA (Oscar signs Sippa).
The passeport is bilingual Polish-French, I noted few observations (see PDF attached), including strange name of Oscar's wife: CUPA, which is in my opinion a mishmash between Cyrillic and Latin, and should be SIPA.

Incidentaly the name SIPA does exist in Poland (639 cases)
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/sipa.html

The name written Ostap in Passeport is clearly Cyrillic mishmash, Oscar writes Оскар in Cyrillic, and in handwritten it is possible to confuse the letter in the middle, "к" with ("т" written "m").

Best,

the family names involved are cupa/supa denik/denik

oral history passed down indicates that the denik/denig family emigrated from Germany to the area around minsk.

franz denik/denig was born in 1882 in stolin, his brother ernest denik/denig was born on august 25, 1884
their sister Helena denik/denig was born on june 17,1890 .

Helena denik/denig married ostap cupa/supa , the passport of ostap cupa/supa indicates he was born in juniszcze, pow stolinokiego, and his wife Helena was born in horyn, pow stolinokiego.

ostap and Helena emigrated to America/Canada in 1928.

franz denik/denig and his brother ernest married two sisters , stefania and marya byzak, beiser, baizert, bayzert, baisert spelling is undetermined. they were married in early 1914 and left for America/Canada
arriving in new York on march 7 1914 . the girls were 16 and 17 years of age, their place of residence was given as stolin, and they left their father august behind.

I have found the immigration ship manifest of these two couples. I am trying to find the villages or towns of juniszcze , horyn, stolin and if any metrics on their birth , marriage are available.
attached is a copy of the passport of ostap cupa/supa and his birthplace,
