Great I guess that answers the question on the origin of that name. I forgot abou that website, thanks for the reminder. I also like riding horses, but not a lot though, my legs rear end can't take it.
Hugh,

I looked up in stankiewicze.com, and found 3 identical lines:

Dowiad - od litewskiej nazwy osobowej Daujotas, ta od daudis ‘wiele, dużo’ + jóti ‘jechać konno’.

Dowiat - od litewskiej nazwy osobowej Daujotas, ta od daudis ‘wiele, dużo’ + jóti ‘jechać konno’.

Dowiatt - od litewskiej nazwy osobowej Daujotas, ta od daudis ‘wiele, dużo’ + jóti ‘jechać konno’.

giving etymology from Lithuanian Daujotas, being composed of two parts, "a lot" and "horse riding".

FWIW.

Best,
Dear friends,

I have always wondered if the name Dowiat (sometimes spelled- Dowiatt) in my family tree is a Polish name or a Lithuanian name, does anyone here know for sure.

Thanks,
