On her tombstone (see my edited post) it reads Margareth not Madgalena.
If she came from the partition ruled by the russians we have to look for Malgorzata, if from the partition ruled by the germans, Margareth.

Gilberto

Hi Gilberto & oncemore,

For what it is worth, her daughter Mary gives Margaret's place of birth as Austria on her marriage license application. So Margaret would have been born in Galicia and since those records were kept in Latin her name would have been recorded as Margaretha. Her daughter also gives the spelling of her mother's maiden name as Benas. If she was born in Galicia, she may have been born in an area which was in inter-war Poland but is now in Ukraine.

I don't believe that the Marya who arrived in 1912 is the person you are looking for since her destination in the US is Illinois rather than Pennsylvania.
I presume that the info about her immigration comes from her husband's naturalization record.

As usual, my suggestion would be to locate the church marriage record for John & Margaret.

With wishes for success,

Yes! Sorry; all of her records say Margaret. I had been playing with similar versions of her name to see if anything shook loose.

The naturalization record says that she came through NY in Jan of 1912. But doesn't offer much more beyond that.
I haven't found a close match for jan of 1912 yet, but I found one in the feb/mar 1912 timeframe. It's Marya though, not Margareta.
And the town looks to be Czarna?
This Marya naturalized. Did you notice the figures? Are the same on her Nat papers?
