I speak no Polish and have no idea where to begin to find out this information. If you are able to direct me or provide any answers to my many questions regarding my maternal great grandparents and their ancestors I would sincerely appreciate any help or information you could provide me. Even a response telling me I will not be able to find this information would be more appreciated than no responses. The history of the village of Nowa Biała or the district of Gmina Nowy Targ would also be of interest to me. Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

As requested, here are a couple of suggestions for your consideration. Others are welcome to add to this starting list, based on their own experiences.
1.	Talk to other older members of your family, about what they know.
2.	Go through your Grandmother's letters, and try writing to the addresses she wrote to, or received letters from.
3.	Post your “I’m searching for” question on the Nowa Biała Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/nowabiala/ Given that the town has only 1,500 citizens you should stand a good chance of someone knowing a Halupka / Chałupka
4.	Google “Nowa Biała halupka” and “Nowa Biała chalupka” and find someone with an email address. Email your questions to them.
5.	For the history of Nowa Biała, try Googling "Nowa Biała" history. You will get quite a number of hits.
• For Polish sites , copy and paste the text into the Google Translate facility at https://translate.google.com/
6.	Try Googling “halupka” genealogy / “Chałupka" genealogy.
7.	In www.familysearch.org search under the Family Tree option for the names Halupka and Chalupka , location Nowa Biala, Nowy Targ, and contact any of the people who updated the records.
8.	Search for Halupka / Chałupka on Ancestry.com, Myheritage.com, Myheritage.pl, wikitree.com and contact any of the people who updated the records.
9.	Search the PolishOrigins database of towns that people are searching https://polishorigins.com/places/
10.	Search the “Names people are interested in” database on Genealodzy https://genealodzy.pl/name-Nazwiska.phtml
11.	Search the “Parishes people are interested in” database on Genealodzy https://genealodzy.pl/name-Parafie.phtml
12.	Post your request on the relevant Genealodzy forum https://genealodzy.pl/PNphpBB2.phtml
13.	Place an ad in the local newspaper http://www.tygodnikpodhalanski.pl/n/25563
14.	Search the local and regional newspapers for your family names Halupka / Chałupka
• http://www.tygodnikpodhalanski.pl/n/25563
• http://www.gazetakrakowska.pl/wiadomosci/podhale/nowy-targ/
15.	Search the death notices for the region: http://podhale24.pl/nekrologi/
16.	Post your request on one of the many regional forums:
17.	If it really means a lot to you to find out the family history, get on a plane and go over there.
• Look up the local telephone book (there are no online Poland white pages services).
• Visit the town cemetery – leaving notes to contact you, on the relevant graves, especially the ones with fresh flowers on them.
• Visit the parish chancellery.
• Stand outside the church on Sunday with a handheld sign “Rodzina Halupka / Chałupka”.
• The advantage of face to face contact is that people would likely be less suspicious than if they received a random email.
18.	Hire a professional researcher to do all of the hard investigative work….for a price.
• Google “finding someone in poland” and you will get a number of people tracing services, that you can hire.

Also, try reading the earlier PolshOrigins posts on the subject of finding living relatives in Poland: https://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?p=6397#6397
Hi Wendye,
I think a good way to start is to get a better spelling of some of the names. Your grandmother, Sophia, would have spelled her name Zofia in Polish documents. (It's a great name. Just saying.) You have seen her father's name written as "Adalbertus," but that has a Latin ending clinging to it - - he was named after Saint Adalbert of Prague (take a look at what Google can tell you about him) whose Czech birth name was Vojtěch, and so in everyday life, a Pole given that name would have gone by Wojciech (no "s"). For Maria, you can expect to see her name written as Maryanna or Marjanna. I would expect her maiden name to be Kołodziej rather than "Kolodzsej." Also, you will probably see the family name as Hałupka.
Hope this helps,
Hi,
I am always amazed by how helpful and kind everyone is when someone requests help finding information about their ancestors. I am sincerely hoping after reading this post someone will be able to help me answer some of the many questions I have regarding my ancestors. My maternal grandmother, Sophia Halupka, was born on April 10, 1906, in Nowa Biała, Poland. Her parents were Adalbertus (his Latin name) or Wojciesch Halupka and Maria (nee) Kolodzsej according to the entry in the Roman Catholic Church baptism book. Sophia left Nowa Biała, Poland, in March of 1927, for Halifax, Canada and never went back to Poland. She died on May 20, 1996.
I am hoping to find out when Adalbertus (Wojciesch) Halupka and his wife Maria (nee) Kolodzsej died, their causes of death, place of burial, birthdates, as well as any information about other siblings of this couple. If there are any living descendants, of Wojciesch and Maria, I would be interested in knowing this as well. Any information regarding this family would be of interest to me. Unfortunately, the only information I have about Sophia’s parents is their names.
