I appreciate your reply and links. It's very helpful information. I used an online translator for the wiki articles and it worked pretty well. At least I'm beginning to get an idea of what "wlasny" is.

Geez though, I wish I could read Polish!

Can anyone provide information about "własny" coat of arms/herby? I've recently found that term assigned to an ancestor and other than knowing it means "one's own", I don't really don't know how to research it. I thought people were assigned to existing clans with existing coats of arms?? I have very little knowledge about nobility and coats of arms and need some help or information to research my ancestor and this herb.

Another question: Did all nobles have a coat of arms/herb?

I appreciate any information!
