Hi Stan.

I am likely a cousin you have met. I appreciate your research and interest in our heritage. We share paternal grandparents for certain. Your Y strain is interesting. I did the NG Genographic Project a year ago. My paternal side haplogroup is I-L702.

I was congratulating Stan on finding his grandfather's info. I know he was looking for it for a long time.

My Budzs were from Bialka in Galacia. Karen Melis did a great amount of research in the area and was able to find my roots back another 3 and possible 4 generation from what I new.
does papers at USCIS show info as to where they were born?

If the USCIS has your grandfather's Declaration of Intention and/or Petition for Naturalization, his birthplace should be listed on the document.

I posted images of the documents in my USCIS thread - they are not the best images, but if you click on the image you can enlarge it to get an idea of what info each document contains. You can see them at: http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=657

                                      thanks for the suggestion.
does papers at USCIS show info as to where they were born?

Karen Mellis found written docs at a church in Poronin/Murzasichle.
But even that is still sketchy.
But we are considering it the closest bet until we find other info
that proves differently.

Have you considered requesting a search of the USCIS for your grandfather's citizenship papers? It's not cheap (about $65) - but for me it was a good value. I recently received my g-grandfather's papers - with photos. You can read about the service and see some documents at this thread:
http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=657

I saw your grandfather's draft card on Ancestry.com and it listed Nowy Targ as his birthplace. Have you been able to narrow down the location further - you didn't sound too certain of the village in your first posting. Nowy Targ is rather large and many people would state this as a birthplace rather than their small village.

I have done a lot of research using ANCESTRY.COM.
NJ Census info for 1900 10 20 and 30. Each Census had a different spelling of the Name Budz (Buc, Beedy, Butch, Budz).
Found draft cards.
BUT no immigration info. I dont think 1890 is on Ellis Island records.
Used info from relatives that I was able to get showing a photo of 50th wedding anniversary 1949.
I was able to track wedding to church in Passaic, NJ but have not connected them for Marriage Info yet.
Hoping that the marriage has info about where they are from in POLAND/GORALE.

I also belong to FTDNA.COM I have tested 111 markers in 'Y' and both MTDNA sets.

Karen Mellis who is the Administrator of the Zamagurie Project on FTDNA has done an huge amount
of research in the Zamagurie Area. She is just fantastic.
Both my Paternal and Maternal Grandparents are from the Zamagurie are.
She found Maternal GP's ancestry back to 1770's in that area and provided me with detailed tree.

She is the one who gave the the info I first posted.
She found info in churches for BUDZ but has trouble because of not being able to
get as much access as she needs. She is the one that has provided the most detailed and valuable info form them in
Poland/Gorale. I cannot say enough 'positive' about Karen and her knowledge and ability to find info.

I am so happy having joined FTDNA and have done many many tests to find more about my ancestry and genetic info.
My "Y" is very unusual. I am only one of 4 that have been found to be I2b1d. this is I-P95.
So if more people join FTDNA and test 'Y" and find out they are I-P95 maybe we can make more connections among
us.

Go to the "Menu" section , here @ PO, and follow prompts for " Polish Archives ". You can send emails to archives, asking them to perform a name search for you. There is a cost for their service.
You would want to include all of the info that you have on the particular person you are searching, ie. Name, date of birth, parents names, wife's name, children's names, date of death, date of marriage, etc...
Hi swbtmis,

You can start by searching www.ellisislandrecords.com
This is the web site for Ellis Island, it is FREE, and contains ship manifests from the years 1892 - 1924.
You said that your grandfather came to Ellis island " about " 1890, if he came in 1892 or later, his arrival should be listed.
Try different spellings for his first name. My grandfather was " Franciszek " and I've seen this spelling more than any others.

Ancestry.com has ship passenger lists that date earlier than 1892, but Ancestry is NOT free.
Both sites manifests can obtain info such as ; last residence, occupation, destination, etc...

Good luck getting started
