Posted: Fri Jan 02, 2009 10:05 am

I wanted to add a quick update to anyone that may have missed the deadline. I have asked http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Kresy-Claimants/ to keep a file on the families that missed this deadline. We were able to reach 100's of victims that were not aware. I feel the number that never knew of this claim is high.

This number being high due to the change in the law, victims age as of today (many are deceased) and family members that had a right to the claim as "next of kin" never hearing of this claim.

From Stefan Wisniowski:

Late claims will continue to be registered in our database by Bozena Gaffney. Those that can justify their lateness can apply to the Mazowiecki Urzad Wojewodzki authorities for an exemption to missing the deadline. They have 7 days according to the Polish law (Kodeks Postempowania Administracyjnego, Art. 68-70).
Those that come in after that will nee to rely on a longer-shot process to challenge the validity of the compensation process, based on the governments false information that people must have returned to Poland to be eligible. That will likely require a court challenge, which is one strategy we must consider.
So yes, we must continue to spread the word and collect data on people who did not claim in time.
I just heard in Polish radio news that you don't have to have complete application with all amendments to submit your claim. Most important is the deadline - December 31, 2008.

I your claim is not comprehensive enough the authorities will ask you to complete it within 6 months.
