Plock was not only a city, but it was a 'county' (I don't know which Polish word applies). For instance, some of my ancestors said Lipno, some said Klokock (small town near Lipno), and some said "Lipno, Plock" on their immigration records.
I finaly got the church records which (so far) only lists Barany Village, which is in the same area as Klokock. So don't rely on Plock as the city, it could be the county.

Also, don't think that her name meant she came from the town of the same name. Those relatives of mine have the same name as a town that was in West Prussia. (I'm still searching to see if earlier ancestors came from there)

Have you found the better Ellis Island search tool? Try the one at: http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellisgold.html
I was able to find anyone listing a specific city they were from using that better search than Ellis Island itself has. Also everyone with parts of names.

And don't forget, GOOGLE can find many names that are not common.
(too many if they are common)

Good luck

I've heard this about NJ vital records before from several researchers! Sounds like they are just to lazy to search their records.

Since your grandmother's children were born in the states, try getting their baptismal records. Due to church laws, more information was usually recorded by priests than what was required for the civil record.

The most important, informative part of a civil marriage record is the application to marry.

Have you looked for an obituary for your grandmother? This may give her town of birth & burial arrangement information (funeral home) or if you know where she was living at time of death, check nearest funeral homes. The funeral home should have a copy of the death record.

I would also try the town and/or county clerk for vatious records.

Note: Always request a copy of the complete original record. Certificates are filled out by clerks & many times don't contain all the information.

Hope this helps & please keep me posted.

Joyce
PS. Plock is 93.1 miles from Zabokliki ("as the crow flies" = air distance)

Thank you very much for your question. All of my grandmother's children were born here in the United States. So far, I only have my grandmother's marriage license. She was also married in the United States. So far, the only town listed is plock. Each one of her siblings have a different town listed. My mother's godfather was related so I decided to try a the town he had listed. This is definitely a needle in a haystack, however, I don't want to give up. I've also requested her marriage license from the state of New Jersey. In the past, I've had one problem right after another with New Jersey vital records. I really hope they find something this time without another excuse. Last time they should it would take at least three months and I never got it. This time I paid more for vital check and hope I get it. Any other suggestions to find her true birthplace would be most welcome. Thank you
Carol
PS I have her marriage license from the church in New Jersey.

I am researching any relatives of my great grandparents Matthew and Eleanor Chmielewski. They had my grandmother Florentyna, Clement, Leon, Faustyn John, and girls which I don't know the names. I think my grandmother was from, born in Zabokliki. My great grandmother's maiden name was Miloszewski which I have had trouble locating. My grandmother immigrated 1899 Ellis island. Relatives out there? Thanks
