I found more Lenart emigrants from Odrowaz, Zaluczne, and Dlugopole: A Vincent Lenart from Odrowaz, two Lenarts from Zaluczne -- Lenart, Maria and Lenart, Jan – and a Lenart, Antoinette (married name), born abt 1882 in Dlugopole (the village my paternal grandfather’s mother came from) who passed away in Chicago in 1944. I don't know if and how the families are related, and if they are related to your family at all, but here is the detailed information:

Lenart, Vincent, 19 years old in 1907, single, farm laborer, traveled to the US on board of the SS ‘Rhein’ that left Bremen, Germany on February 16, 1907 and arrived in New York on March 4, 1907. His place of birth and last residence were Odrowaz, his destination in the US was Chicago where he was going to join his father Kazimierz Lenart at 766, 22th Street.

Lenart, Maria, 18 years old in 1907, single, traveled to the US on board of the SS ‘Kronprinz Wilhem’ that left Bremen, Germany on July 2, 1907 and arrived in New York on July 10, 1907. Her place of birth was Zaluczne, her last residence abroad was with her mother Rozalia Lenart in Zaluczne, her destination in the US was Chicago where she was going to join her brother-in-law Jan Feiko or Fecko at 822, 18th Street.

Lenart, Jan, 17 years old in 1914, farm laborer, traveled to the US on board of the SS ‘Kaiser Wilhelm II’ that left Bremen, Germany on April 21, 1914 and arrived in New York on Apr 28, 1914. His place of birth was Zaluczne, last residence abroad was with his sister Rozalia Jasien in Zaluczne, his destination in the US was Chicago where he was going to join his father Wincenty Lenart at 1758, W. 18th Street.

There hasn't been too much activity in this thread lately and perhaps this is already "old information" but I figured I would share what I know.
Vincent Lenart who arrived in 1907 and went to his father Kazimierz in Chicago was the son of Kazimierz Lenart & Aniela Masnica. That is the same Vincent Lenart who was mentioned in the death record in 1935. His mother's name in listed incorrectly as Angeline Kowal. His spouse was Mary Kowalczyk, who was my 1st cousin, twice removed; ie. my grandfather's 1st cousin.
Maria Lenart who arrived in 1907 was the daughter of Stefan Lenart & Rosalia Gal. She was going to her brother-in law, John Feczko who was married to Bronislawa Lenart. Bronislawa died in 1907 and John remarried to Carolina Golak, who are relatives in Ute's family tree. Maria herself married John Kozera 5/14/1911 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Chicago. Maria also had a brother, Frank, who married Magdalena Grela 11/1/1901 at St Adalbert Church in Chicago.

The death record for Antonette Tenart/Lenart: Her maiden name was Antonina Kowalkowski and she married Frank Lenart, the son of Mathias Lenart & Rosalia Jasien 5/30/1906 at St. Adalbert Church.

I have been disappointed that the LDS have not filmed the church records of Odrowąż and Załuczne after finally finding out the village my grandmother was born in. If you've read Shellie's story, you know that didn't stop her - she hopped on a plane to Poland, and went on a PolishOrigins tour. I know that many of us can't do that, but I also know that there are records to be had. Led by Shellie, a small group of us that have ancestors from the Odrowąż and Załuczne area have pitched in for birth records from the Krakow Archives. I have found at least 2 more ancestors from these records, so I wanted to give an update. Kunegunda Jasien Lenart's (my 4th great grandmother ) father is Szymon Jasien. My 4th great grandmother Anna Lenart Fitak's father is Jakub Lenart.

Yes, thank you, I think that it says Załuczne too, and that is the village where people at PolishOrigins have helped me to learn that my grandmother Aniela Lenart was from. The last residence Telngger was written in the INDEX at the Ellis Island site. This is what someone thought the handwritten Załuczne was. It's easier for someone familiar with Załuczne to see that it does say Załuczne . I was really suprised though, because I don't see how the person that indexed saw two of the the letter g towards the end of the village name. There was only one loop for the z towards the end. I think that in this case the person that indexed it at the pay website Ancestry.com came closer to the right spelling, and that is where Ruth found it for me, and then she looked at how it was indexed at Ellis Island so I could look it up for free there. I had never tried looking for my grandmother at Ancestry.com. The Ellis Island site is both wonderful and frustrating, and that is why I'm trying to help find Załuczne emigrants whose surname or village name is indexed incorrectly. I want other people to be as lucky as I have been when they are searching for their ancestors. Thank you again.

I think you are wrong about the last residence meaning Telngger. There is no word about it in manifest but Załuczne. The same is about her contact in Europe: father Klemens Lenard, Załuczne Gal. (Gal is for Galicja, Polish and Ukrainian then-part of Austro-Hungarian Empire). No Telngger.
Somebody had made mistake rewriting the manifest.

After 10 years of looking on and off, thanks to a kind soul on the Poland-Roots mailing list, I now know how my grandmother Aniela Lenart was indexed at Ellis Island:
Seuard, Anieta [Lenart, Aniela], age 17, single. Last residence: Telngger. Austria. Polish. Ship: Kroonland. Port: Antwerp.
Departure: August 9, 1913. Manifest line 0020. Arrived New York August 18, 1913. Going to uncle Josef Bielanski 1811 17th St. Chicago, Illinois. Contact in Zaluczne father Klemens Lenart.
I have been helping to work on the Zaluczne emigrant database that Ute started, and continues to work on:
http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=1107
I am so very happy to be able to add my grandmother's name. I had come up with about 50 different indexed spellings for Zaluczne, but Telngger?! Aniela Lenart's last place of residence does look like Zaluczne in the cursive writing if you know what you are looking for.
From the information I have been given, either Klemens Lenart was an only child, or he had a sister, but she didn't marry a Bielanski, so I think that Josef Bielanski might have been married to a sister of Aniela's mother Magdalena Babicz Lenart.

Wow, this is really a big step forward! Although passenger records are no doubt a valuable source of genealogical information and often the only help in locating our ancestors’ origins and destinations, in many instances names, origins, and destinations are misspelled and distorted to such an extent that it requires a lot of patience, persistence, some familiarity with common Polish names, and often a good portion of phantasy to use them. That's why I started last year transcribing passenger lists of emigrants from particular villages (now with your valuable help with the Zaluczne database) and to propose alternate spellings where given name, last name, last place of residence, or destination may be misspelled in the hopes that it will help others in uncovering their ancestors’ origins, destinations, and perhaps even family connections. I'm so happy, Cheri, that you finally found your grandmother Aniela Lenart at Ellis Island, and I hope the information given in the passenger record will be useful to you in your future research.
Thank you for your comments Boy_dan. I have no doubt that there is a relative in Poland that can identify these 3 woman, and I look forward to finding relatives, and finding out the names of the women. There were ten children in my grandmother's family, roughly a 20 year difference in ages, so this explains the age difference.

I'm going to attach one of my favorite pictures. My Busia had told my sisters and I that it was it was 3 of her sisters. When my mom looked at it recently, she thought it was a picture of my Busia's sister and her two daughters. I don't know who is right, but I think the woman in the middle looks young, though married because of the scarf?
Cheri

I think your mother is right and the photo was taken for somebody who stayed away for a longer time (husband in America?). The old family pictures were mostly taken with parents sitting in between. The scarf says that woman is already married; in addition her clothes aren't that colourful as the both young ladies around her. Means, she didn't want to be a subject (object) for the men in the vicinity, because she already had been married but the girls did. The clothes of young ladies and young men were one of the motivations to get marry with.
However the lady in the middle looks young, she is probably mother of two girls who might be only 14, 15 years younger than herself. I'd look for data who in the family (still in Poland) got married in the age about 15 -- it would probably be the lady in the middle of this wonderful picture.

People I’ve “met” on PolishOrigins have given me the best gift this year. I started out only knowing my grandmother’s parents names, and now I’ve learned the names of her Lenart ancestors 4 more generations back (see page 1 of this forum for an update), and other ancestors as well.

I became a member in the middle of October, and immediately Ute thought she found my grandmother, Aniela Lenart from Zaluczne on a ship list, and kept helping find what information she could. Then Shellie found Aniela’s father Klemens on a committee to build a church in Zaluczne. It turned out that wasn’t my grandmother, but I would learn that the village was the one I was looking for.

It amazed me when I shared my photos that Shellie recognized the Odrowaz church in one of them Then Shellie found that a photo sent to my grandmother, matched a photo that her cousin had gotten from a cousin on her trip to Poland. This member, babblingbrook had videotaped the Odrowaz cemetery, and found my great grandparents gravestones. That meant a great deal to me.

I benefited greatly by those who had traveled to the place of my ancestors. Shellie knew of an expert on the history of the area, and kindly wrote to Zenon on my behalf, who contacted Krzysztof. Zenon then took the time to translate the information. They found the home of my grandmother!! Of course this is what I was searching for, but it surprised me exactly how much it had meant to finally know. I don’t know that words can convey how much it has touched my heart.

I appreciate everyone that has shared something at PolishOrigins, because we can all learn more about our ancestors from each other. I appreciate the letters, photos, stories, blogs, forums of the places where our ancestors lived - everything. I do have many more questions about my ancestors, but now I know exactly where to look! Bless you all!

KLEMENS Lenart!! His headstone is in bad shape, and hard to read, it might say he was 84 yrs old. I really didn't expect Bonnie to find either Magdalena or Klemens, so the fact that she found both of them in the same cemetery is amazing to me. There were many headstones that were so dilapidated that she could not read them, so I am thrilled that these two have survived long enough to know that they were there.

She has had time to look through some of the videotape, and has written down the Lenarts that she found thus far. I believe that she has likely found my great-grandmother! Many thanks Bonnie!! I will post the others that she has found which will hopefully help another Lenart descendant, or maybe even help us to make a connection between our families:
Thank you for your work on the index of emigrants from Zaluczne. That's interesting about Mary Lenart. I think that the Marya Lenart who was the daughter of Klemens and Magdalena, stayed in Poland.
Cheri,
I'm working on an index of emigrants from the village Zaluczne in the district of Nowy Targ and just ran across a connection between a Bilek family from Zaluczne: Albert Bilek, wife Martha Szymusiak, and a Mary Lenard who is indexed as their child.
I was wondering if Mary Lenard was adopted by the Bilek family from Zaluczne and thought about your grandmother whose sisters you said were Marya and Rozalia. Thought I share the info with you. Here are the details:
Bilck, Albert [Bilek, Albert]
Birth: Zaluczne, Poland, Spouse : Martha Szymusiak, Child: Mary Lenard; Source: Illinois, Deaths and StillBirths, 1916-1947.
I’d like to comment about the stigma of first cousins marrying. So far I haven’t found any in my direct line, though I would imagine that there are. Awhile back I was working with others on one of my paternal (not Polish) lines, and found first cousins that married before the Civil War. Their descendant would not believe that first cousins would marry. I was curious about the subject, and found that the stigma might be unfounded. In history, royalty preferred marrying cousins, there are instances in the Bible, and Albert Einstein and Charles Darwin both married first cousins (though it appears Charles wondered about it in this first article):
I was also surprised that in 20 states it is legal to marry a first cousin:
Hi everyone,
I am not really sure there is a way to say this delicately but it might be good to keep in mind that making assumptions on pictures is ok and hey when you have nothing else to go on.... why not put them out there and try right? (I am thrilled to find out that Cheri and I have the same picture!)

Some things to maybe keep in mind though.... even though this is a very small town it was not uncommon for cousins to marry each other, for brothers to take on widows etc. My family is from there so I can say it. I know I have one relative at least who married a cousin.
The church kept the records and even they are only as good as the person writing them down and contain errors.
People died young and had mouths to feed.
Even now I have relatives there who do not know relatives in the same town with the same name. Obviously they are related and this shocked me at first. But life was hard. Many marriages were "arranged" in the sense that they were practically forced to marry someone in order to keep up land and farms etc. especially the women. I have letters that for our generation are heartbreaking. "I cried and cried as they forced me to marry this man" etc. Beyond immediate family I do not think it was very well tracked who was who, that so and so would be a cousin to so and so. Nothing wrong with it, it was just life.

So post away with pictures as they are fascinating, as many letters I have state, "photographers were hard to come by and very expensive." I personally LOVE seeing them! And there is no reason whatsoever to be self conscious about doing so! Just keep in mind it isn't unrealistic that many people will look alike.
I noticed this while I was sitting in the church during the service trying to see if anyone looked like me and over and over it seemed person after person did. The more pictures we can post the more likely we are to find someone who has the same one and writing on them. So this is a great place to do it!
Another thing to keep in mind is that godparents were a HUGE deal there. Almost every letter I have refers to godchildren, so it would not be impossible that a picture you have is of a godchild or godparent of your relative. I think I may have a number of these. Even though the pictures were expensive, the godparent godchild relationship seems to have been extremely important.
Anyway, food for thought. Keep the pics coming, they are amazing to see!

                                      Cherie,

Yes, I have found that a person can resemble one side of the family at one point in time and the other side of the family at yet another point in time. Who would have thought that without seeing it transpire over the years? I have also taken note of an individuals "Body Language" if one can call it that in a still photo. It seems that it does exist to me, I will pick up little nuances of certain ways a body is positioned! I find "EARS" to be a key body part of comparison-when they are not covered in various ways and more so on Men, whose are usually showing.

It is wise for all of us not to jump to speculations and conclusions right at the top of our research-however, at some point we need to realize that our Ancestor's have a treasured photo in their possession, because it was sent to them as a "Dear" person of the sender. Unless a family was known to be wealthy, these photos most likely were in scant supply and only to be given to a Very Dear person who is most likely a Close relative!

So once I determine the possibility of all the people mentioned either verbally, or in letters to my ancestors, and relatives that are known & named but not ID'd in photos, I come up with, shall we say a "Circle" of the people they seemed to have contact with and were "Dear" to them" Once I have reached that point in research, then I start taking my speculations and conclusions seriousally and assigning identities to the faces in my photos when suddenly I have information that makes "sense" to me in what I know about everyone in this "Circle". However, I always remain OPEN to changes as I progress in my research!

Cheri, I believe I have only posted two photos which are in the Military section-dated Tues. Jan. 4,2011.
I have since come to the conclusion that my Scan 0022 is indeed, my Great Uncle Albert Duplaga!
I believe that the second Soldier is most likely Albert's brother Walter,(who is known to have been in the military) however, I have not yet taken the leap of assisgning the identity to him, as there is a 3rd brother Adam, who I know so little about, I will allow time to learn more to either include or exclude him as a possibilityof Soldier #2!

My Best to you & your research,
Cherie,

It does appear to be the same wedding dress on the two women. The "hairline" of the two women is very different to me. If they are not sisters, they could be cousins, as their bodies seem to have a similar build & height and the dress appears the same on each of them. I think that the Men may be brothers.
At the moment you are concentrating on these Wedding couples-but don't forget about that older man, most likely a grandfather holding one of the children. I think this grandfather is a father of the Man in the photo.

All of the photos you have posted have been interesting to view. You are lucky to have so many lovely photos! As you keep working on figuring out who they are, eventually you will learn enough information and be able to make some good educated guesses on who is who. I have figured out 8 totally unknown people so far, in my photos May I suggest, that you take a look at a variety of more current photos of people in your family at "different ages" Example, I learned that at the age of 17, my sister looks like my grandmother at about the same age. However, If you compared my grandmother at the age of 30 and my sister at the age of 30, you would not necessarily see the same similarity.

Also, I recently got a good chance to share a lot of my photos with my daughter, who hadn't seen the old ones before--right off, she said that a particular woman in a wedding photo looked like me when I was younger. This gave me the hint that this particular woman and I may at least be related. I now believe she is one of my grandmother's sisters. That is not verified at this point, but gives me an opinion to consider.
Your research is advancing by leaps and bounds on Polish Origins,
