Nearly all Germans in Poland were "Evangelical" (Lutherans) and their church books have been collected at EZA (http://ezab.de) in Berlin.
If you know your German ancestors were Lutheran, and you know the approximate birth date, and you know the village or town - or the major
church center - such as Lipno, or Rypin, etc .. Email them with all you know and you may get a very speedy answer.
Over a year back, I sent 4 names and got 13 documents of 11 children, the mother's death, the remarraige of the father (my great grandparents),
and THEIR parents were named in the death document and the marriage document (my great great grandparents).. all in 48 hours,
and for 130 Euros.

Thank you Zenon.. Though the document was written in Russian, Zenon managed to find a friend that translated it for me..

If anyone is interested, the translation reads:

Birth certificate of Gustaw Krampitz
1881 No. 293
Barany
It happened in the town of Lipno on November 4/16, 1881 at 3.00 P.M. Jan Krampitz, age 36, farmer living in the village of Barany, in presence of Jakub Bškowski, age 30, and Jan Gelbmer, age 50, both farmers living in the village of Barany, showed us a male child declaring that it was born at the same place on November 1/13 current year at 10 A.M. from his wife Katarzyna nee Malon, age 33. To the child, on the baptism ceremony held today, was given name Gustaw and its godparents were mentioned witnesses together with Julianna Gelbmer and Ewa Danielska. The certificate was read for the father of the child and witnesses and signed only by us. Father and witnesses are illiterate.

Pastor Henryk Borcz (?)

Remark: Gelbmer is probably changed by Russian language Helbmer

Many many thanks to you zenon, and to your friend

My grandfather was born in Klokock, about 3-4Km from Lipno. The family was German and I obtained copies of their church records from http://ezab.de - "the Evangelical Central Archive in Berlin".

They are handwritten in Russian and I'm having a time finding someone that can translate them for me. Would appreciate any suggestions.

I'll add a piece of the copy as the full size is .5MB and quite large.
(I just noticed that you can click the image to see a larger size)

So, it seems I'm more Polish than I realized
