Priests Fathering Children

Hello,

I'm researching an ancestral line where a priest may have been a biological father. Or, the father may have been someone closely tied to the church in some way. This would have been in the mid-1800s. Any ideas on on what type of person it could be if not a priest?

Does anyone have experience researching this type of situation?

I imagine that a priest would not want it to be known that he fathered a child. I'm wondering how to go about researching to determine a priest's name in the village. Would the parish have a book of priests and when they served?

What was required to be a priest in the mid-1800s? It seems that they would have to be educated and literate. Who were allowed to be priests?

This person may have had a chapel in their home or on their property. What kind of people would have this type of privilege?
