Unfortunately no. I'm sure that I still have it with all the old letters from Polish relatives, I just don't know where.
One day, I will index them and send them back to the relatives if they are interested.

Hi Henry,
Looking at the name, it is more likely to be a surname than a diminutive of a first name. The surname Paska does exist. Here is a distribution of people using the surname Paski:

While I can bring to mind diminutives that end in -ka, I cannot think of any that end in -ska. That said, there are always names that are new to me.
What you may do, knowing the location where this family of letter writers lived, is see if there were families there with the surname Paska (or Paski).

Thank you for the suggestion Sophia, I didn't consider the possibility of it being a surname, but my poor translation of the written letter, perhaps should have been Michal Paska rather than Michal and Paska. They/he would have been in Tomaszów-Lubelski around that time (ca1955). It was only a shot in the dark and not worth chasing at this stage.

Well, there you go! I had not thought of Baska, since I always think of the diminutive of Barbara being Basia, but of course this makes sense as well.
I would like to add one other possibility, and that is the surname Pasek which does exist in the neighborhood of Tomaszow-Lubelski. Since you have done some translation of letters, you know that word endings (and name endings) change depending on how they are used in a sentence. For example, if you wanted to say "Michal Pasek's house" you would say "dom Michala Paska." Michal is changed to Michala and Pasek is changed to Paska. Depending on the handwriting in the letter, you might easily have seen it as "Michal i Paska" and thought it meant the first names of two people. All speculation on my part .... but this is why digging up the letter and seeing the actual text would be the best solution
I know you said this is not a high priority for you at the moment, but you may just make note of the Pasek possibility for when you re-visit this in the future.

You give a very plausible scenario, as I will explain. The letter would be from my paternal grandmother, and the letter could have been written anywhere from 1953 to 1976, but the older date is more likely hence my guess, though could be up to 10 years older. This then could relate to a cousin of mine, named Barbara, who may have married anytime after 1960 (to a man named Michal???!!!). It's another viable possibility, since very little is known about her. I will be ordering some records from USC-TL after I get the Zamosc ones, for which I'm still waiting.
