my name is Orsolya and I'm Hungarian.
I am looking for my Polish roots. One is my great-great-grandmother, who was born in Szymbark and her name was Francziszka Trybus.
She had a very hard life as she was brought to Budapest/Hungary at the age of 8 to work as a maid at a rich family. After 1 year she accidentally broke a precious pottery so she run away and spent her time on the streets when finally a pub-owner gave her shelter.
She had a long story after this too, but the main thing is that she forgot her name and where she came from till her actual employer suggested her to find out her roots when she was 18. This was in 1881 so she must have been born around 1863. (Later, in her death certificate in 1937 her age was given as 71, so not sure when she was born exactly.)
By chance, she found her first "owner" and he enlightened her about the name and her parents' name and birth place. Apparently she also had siblings. Her father was woodward.

I was looking for her birth certificate online but with no success. Do you have any idea, how I should move forward to find any trace?
Thank you!
Orsolya

Hello Orsolya,
welcome to the forum!
I would like to add what to Marcel wrote: the Diocesan Archives in Tarnów stores the metrical books (births, marriages and deaths) of Roman-Catholic parish in Szymbark for the following years: 1826-1878, 1884-1889.
So if Franciszka was born around 1863-66 it should be possible to find her birth record as well as the older generations.

You may contact archives on your own or if you wish PolishOrigins' assistance with this research, feel free to contact us. Here you can find all the details about our genealogy services: https://polishorigins.com/genealogy/

Please also note that there ate still 79 people bearing surname Trybus living in Szybmark (and 66 people in nearby Gorlice). Here is a map of surname distribution: https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Trybus

Good luck with your research!
The documents from the Szymbark parish are stored in the Diocesian Archives in Tarnów. Here is the email to the Archives: arch.diec.tarnow@gmail.com
