Thanks for posting the 19th century map! I've never seen that map. I noticed many Little dates like "1887" all over the map-Do you have any idea what they refer to?

MaryAnne

My guess is that they refer to the construction dates of the railroads. 1850s -1870s for those marked by alternating black and white, and 1880s and plus for the white lines.

That's right Henryk, the dates refers to the construction of roads and railroads.

The whole topic with the map can be found in our Forum here: http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?p=868 .

The title and colours of the map are misleading. "Ziemie Polskie W 2 Poł XIX w Gospodarka" "Economy of the Polish Lands in the Second half of the 19th Century"
The Polish Lands are more than the rose coloured area: the "Kingdom of Poland". They include in Germany: Silesia, Poznan, Pomerania, West Prussia and East Prussia, in Austria: Galicia, and in the Western Provinces of Russia.

In Galicia. Modern spelling is Bęczyn. It is about halfway between Wadowice and Kraków.
http://forum.polishorigins.com/files/map_polish_territory_in_19_century_437.jpg
If you zoom the map, you can how far Bęczyn is from the German border, and the Russian border.

My grandfather came from the village benczyn, in Southern Poland ( 49° 56' 0" North, 19° 40' 0" East )
I would like to know if this village would have been part of Galicia or part of Germany, Silesia? Thanks in advance.
