Hi Nick,

The record you seek should be able to be found on Family Search film 2044362 which has been digitized but restricted to being viewed at a Family History Center or an affiliated library (attachment 1). Film 2060887 (attachment 2) provides an index to births 1797-1807. It appears that your best options are either to head to a Family History Center or library or to avail yourself of the Family Search lookup service.

As you know, civil registration began in the Konin region with the Napoleonic long paragraph style of records, which first were mandated for the Duchy of Warsaw beginning in 1808. Parishes sent copies of earlier sacramental records or summaries which provided info prior to the advent of civil registration in 1808. The films mentioned above were made in the archives of the Diocese of Włocławek. The holdings of the diocesan archives are not available on sites of any of the Polish National Archives so the Family Search route or a visit to the diocesan archives are pretty much the only options. The reason the records are in the Diocese of Włocławek is because not long after the Congress of Vienna redrew the boundaries of Partitioned Poland the RC Church also redrew diocesan boundaries. It was the usual RC Church policy to have a diocese contained in only one secular political entity. This policy resulted in the creation of the Diocese of Włocławek-Kalisz and thus the original copies of the records you need are housed in Włocławek. The bottom line is that your ancestor’s birth is not indexed on Geneteka and you need to do your own work as described above to find a copy of his birth record.
