From what you posted, I do not see any reference at all to Munsterberg. It is as if the records came from the church in Weigelsdorf. I am so puzzled by that, as it was my impression that the Weigelsdorf church did not exist at the time of these records.
Thank you so much for trying to resolve it.
Hi Sophia & Trish,

According to info in one of the sub-sites of Geneteka the RC parish in Wigańcice/Weigelsdorf was founded in the 15th century and was under the patronage of St. Bartholomew. Link: https://parafie.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=pr&pid=9519 The metrical books in the parish archives begin post WWII (1945) but obviously the parish is much older. Attached is a pic of the church and here is a link to historic photos. https://polska-org.pl/517946,Wigancice,Kosciol_sw_Bartlomieja.html
Keep On Keepin’ On,
Great to have the microfilm citations and the links, I'm sure Yapper will appreciate having that information.
What we still do not know is which parish these records are from. Munsterberg (on today's map, Ziębice, Poland) had two catholic churches. Do either of you know how to determine which one these records are from, other than going back to the microfilm and looking for an image with a book cover (or title page) that gives the name of the parish?
The two churches still exist.
One is the Basilica of St. George:
http://www.bazylikamniejszaziebice.pl/
and
Parafia pw. św. Apostołów Piotra i Pawła w Ziębicach which seems not to have a website.
Best,
Hi Sophia, Cynthia, and everyone,
I went back into the microfilm. There wasn't a "book cover" shown. If there was one, it was blank. However, I did download a copy of what familysearch.org listed before each section. I don't know if this is a help.
Hello all,

Yes, Sophia, you are correct. The church is in Munsterberg. Here is the link to the Family Search parish books for the Catholic Church. They are locked, meaning you must view them from a research center, but you will see two magnifying glasses indicating those two items have been indexed by volunteers and can be searched. If you select the second magnifying glass for the Taufe (birth) records for 1803, you will be able to search for and find the baptismal record. So, yes, the images of the records Trish provided are from the Catholic parish books.
Hi,
The fact that the records are in German does not tell you what denomination they are. The links that Cynthia provided are to an index of both Catholic and Lutheran records. Hopefully Trish, who was able to obtain actual images, can tell you which it was (by paging backwards to the beginning of the church book). That should enable you to find the answer to your other question of whether that church still exists.
Hi Everyone,
Hi Yapper,

Well, yes, in fact I am spectacular. However, we are not quite there in your quest to know which church your family records are from. We seem to have figured out which Weigelsdorf is the correct one. Specifically, your Weigelsdorf appears to be the one in Münsterberg, Breslau, Schlesien, Preussen. On current day maps, this is Wigancice, Poland, exactly as you had labelled it in your title of this thread.

The unfortunate thing is that whoever indexed the records on Family Search has instead indicated the Weigelsdorf in Reichenbach, Breslau, Schlesien, which on today's maps is Ostroszowice, Poland. I believe this Weigelsdorf to be incorrect, based on my read of the document, the maps, and my conversation with Michael on your other thread.

Now, even though Wigancice has a church today, it is not the church from the timeframe of your records. It appears to me that your records were from a church in Münsterberg. The Meyer's Gazetteer entry for Münsterberg says that it has two Catholic churches. So, which was it? You have clues in the translation that Michael did. The 1803 baptism and marriage were both performed by father Edmundus Adolph. The burial of Franz Mücke was performed by Caplan (chaplain) Preuss. You need to find out which church they served. Then we will know for sure where this church really was.

Antoine Andermann built St Mary's catholic chapel in south Louisiana and his son Ernest helped to build St Michaels catholic church further down the river road a generation later - so relieved to finally connect the dots

I think the church might have been in Berzdorf (in which case, Catholic). Here is the entry for Berzdorf in Meyer's Gazetteer:
https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10157024
If you follow that link, and click on the "map" tab, you will see not only Berzdorf, but also your Weigelsdorf as well as some of the other towns named in the church book image of the marriage record (Ober Kunzendorf, and Tschammerhof).
If the church was in Münsterberg, also close by, then it could have been either Catholic or Lutheran.
Hi Yapper,
Good to see so much progress, thanks to Cynthia and Trish!
Your records are in German. There is a running thread here on the forum, where you can ask for help with German translations. Here:

I'll look them over to see if I can determine actual name of church - if so, will someone be able to tell me if church still exists there & were it is located? Also, hoping to be able to decipher godparents on baptism as well as witness on marriage? With any luck this could lead to other relatives - fingers crossed.
Thanks so much!!

Family search has the parish records. Here is the link for the 1803 index for baptism you seek:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6ZXS-FN11

The records are locked and can only be viewed from a Family Research center or participating library near you.

I will look for the others and post if I find it.
