Hi, Zeon

My pleasure. One more thing I have noticed is that some entries are displayed just as "akta stanu cywilnego" + plus the number of the 'sygnatura". Curiosly, they don't mention the name of the parish or village.

Thank you Jozef and Gilberto for sharing with us your instructions

They might be particularly important for those of us who may have ancestors from the areas of Lublin, Poznan and from the city of Warsaw. More than 3 million scans, including BMD records from these three Polish State Archives branches, are available now through the http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/ website.

Inna lepsza metoda
- po lewej stronie wybierz kategorię "akta metrykalne" i "urzędy stanu cywilnego"
- w polu szukania wpisz nazwę miejscowości
- dopiero teraz kliknij "szukaj"
- wybierz i kliknij plik w wynikach wyszukiwania
- z prawej strony masz trzy pola: informacje o zespole, serie i jednostki. Wybierz serie
- wybierz jednostki w zespole (w nawiasach ilość dostępnych plików)
- wybierz plik

Z prawej strony obok "Informacje o jednostce" powinna być ramka z "skany". Jeżeli "skany" nie ma, to znaczy że księgi z aktami nie są jeszcze zdigitalizowane.

Another better method
- The left, select the category of "public registry files" and "Registrar Offices'
- In the search field, type the name of the town
- Now click "search"
- Select and click the file in the search results
- The right side you have three fields: information about the band, series and units. Select Series
- Select the individual in the team (in brackets the number of available files)
- Select a file

On the right side next to "Information about the" should be the frame of the "scans". If the "scans" no, it means that the book of acts are not yet digitized.

                                      Jozefs,

Thank you so very much Now I figured out that the SEARCH field is not to type a surname in.

Based on your instructions I was able to find some other tips that I would like to share with members of this forum.

1. In search fiedl type "akta stanu cywilnego' and click Enter. On the rigth side it must displayed the number 3661 pages found
2. On the left side, in Search prefences, mark the box "search only fonds/units with digital copies" and click enter. Number of pages is reduced to 173
3. On the left side, in Choose the Archive, mark the box "Archiwum Panstwow w Poznaniu" and click Enter. Number of pages is nowe reduced to 58.
4. On the left side, in Choose Category, scroll down the menu and find 'Category:urzędy stanu cywilnego i akta metrykalne". Mark the two boxes and click Enter. Number of pages now is 40.

From pages 1 to 8, a vertical orange bar appears on the left side of the entry; from page 9 on - starting on the third entry - a gray bar appears. No idea what these colors stand for. If anyone finds out, please let me know.

Apparently, entries are not displayed in alphabetical order by name of the place or powiat. A second look and it seemed to me that the alphabetical order goes like that:
a. every Parafii Ewangelickiej comes before Parafii Rzymskokatolickiej, in a given powiat
b. 'inside' every Parafii Ewangelickiej the alphabetical order is by place's name, regardless of the powia.
c. same as 'b', for Parafii Rzymskokatolickiej

If anyone finds out a way to search by surname I would more than happy to hear.

This is rough translation of response I received from Narodowe Archiwum Cyfrowe (National Digital Archive) quickly after my email.

"Currently we do not have prepared any manual in English. We understand the problem and thank you very much for telling us about it. We will take this into account in the near future.

What we can recommend now is to direct any queries regarding the operation of service - in particular problems with operating and errors - by email swa AT nac.gov.pl .

Certainly we will address the questions sent to us - including those in English and other languages, if only our skills permit.

Good advice for using the service - it is being updated from time to time (database). Therefore, it is worth from time to time to clear your browser cache. This will allow to avoid many problems with the use of database (such as non-existent links)."

                                      Zenon,

Still lost, after some attempts. The image I received this morning was about a mother named Magroski, and the AP was Poznan.

Even typing Magroski, Magroska, Magrowski or Magrowska (one at a time), and selecting AP Poznan (with its branches), it returns 'no data found'.

Another example: there is a Magrowska marriage in AP Warszawa (found in Geneteka). I then selected AP Warszawa and typed Magrowska.
Once again, 'no data found' was the result.

More: I have tried to filter those APs mentioned above, by selecting "fonds with scanned images, only" and below "akta metrykaline" and "urzad stanu cywilnego". Even doing so, ALL fonds are displayed, which is time consuming to advance page by page.

That's right Gilberto. Pradziad provides only information about what kind of BMD records, from given parish are physically available (in form of original book or microfilm) in a given branch of Polish State Archives. Through Zosia you can find scans of some of all the different kind documents, including BMD records.

As I checked, you cannot apply database search commends used in many search engines and databases including our PolishOrigins Databases tool as well as google search. We described some search tips in this article: PolishOrigins Databases tool. Help - Practical Tips. Maybe in the future we will try to incorporate Zosia in the PolishOrigins Databases for you all to be able to use it in a simple way.

What I can advise you now is to switch into English (unfortunately, there is no Portuguese ) version and click 'advanced options' there. Among other options and search preferences, you can choose if you want to:
Search for one or more words
Search for all words
Search for exact phrase .

You can also choose there which archive (AP branch) resources would you like to search.

If you needed, you can contact project developers listed on this page: http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/kontakt for more information.

Let us know about your experience of using this tool.
If you are interested in BMD records specifically go directly to the Pradziad database which is designed to search among BMD records only http://baza.archiwa.gov.pl/sezam/pradziad.php?l=en .

Zosia, called Integrated Archival Information System, is designed to search among ALL resources stored in the Polish State Archives. This is of course on going project, in progress. Pradziad includes all BMD records kept in Polish State Archives.

                                      Hi, all

Have any of you already used this online database? If so, I would appreciate a detailed step-by-step because I got completely lost among those many 'narrow search' boxes. I am especially interested in looking for BMD records. The link http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/ displays some APs. From this point on I don't know where to click, where to go.

Thanks in advance,
