Thank you for the info and the link!
I am seeing some people on Geneteka now with the Osękowski name from Niebieszczany.

I got a copy of a marriage register for two more of my great great grandparents. On other U.S. records and obituaries I've found, their names are written as Stanislaw Osenkowski and Agnieszka Hamot.
It looks a little like "Osekowski" in the handwritten record, although I'm not sure if the third letter is an e.

Thank you!

Hi Emma,

The letter is ę which is the letter e with the diacritical mark under the letter. The mark is known as an ogonek, which literally means “tail”. Polish uses the Roman/Latin Alphabet with some additions and subtractions. Here is a link to info about the Polish Alphabet https://mylanguages.org/polish_alphabet.php As you can tell from the pronunciation section the letter ę has a pronunciation which is very similar to how the letters “en” are pronounced, which is why you have seen the name Osękowski written as Osenkowski

Wishing you successful researching,

Hello,

I've also never seen an H with two dots above it before. I found some birth records in Geneteka for who could possibly be Agnieszka's siblings, with parents Marcin Chamot and Anna Gancarz.
I was wondering if anyone had some insight about the spelling of the last names?

Thank you!
