Hi,

This is the go to site for most locations within Kujawsko-Pomorskie https://www.genealogiawarchiwach.pl/ Records held in the Włocławek branch of the Polish National Archive in Toruń were digitized about 8 or so years ago using funds from a grant from the EU. The site has records from the civil registry office in Mokre (in German) for 1874 until the end of WWI. If that fits your time frame it would be a good place to search but the search would not be as simple as searching indexes by name. The records are not indexed by name but if you know the year and month of birth from records on this side of the pond they are not difficult to locate.

The German Partition used transcripts of parish registers, both Catholic & Protestant (Evangelical/Lutheran) as civil vital records until 1874 when newly reunited Germany set up Civil Registry Offices, which were not connected to religious denominations. Civil registrations took place at those offices from 1874 until the end of WWI. Mokre was not only the location of a RC parish but it was also the location of a civil registry office.

Wishing you success in your quest,

Dave

Thank you, Dave! Interesting to know. I found success in finding birth records/marriages for Mokre. However, the birth records start at 1866. Do you know a source to view records previous to 1866? The marriage records seem to not list parents names. Thank you again!

Nick

Hi Nick,

I don’t know of any online source for births prior to 1866 from the parish of Mokre.

It is usually helpful to know the archive where records are housed to understand whether the records are civil or ecclesiastical. Those from https://www.genealogiawarchiwach.pl/ are housed in a Polish National Archive. The film notes for the records on Family Search state that the records were filmed in an archive in Germany—Mikrofilm aufgenommen von Manuskripten in Berlin-Dahlem.Both locations are secular archives as opposed to ecclesiastical archives.

According to a sub-site of Geneteka https://parafie.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=pr&pid=5224 birth & baptism records housed in the parish begin inn 1893 and the Archives of the Archdiocese of Toruń (Mokre is part of that archdiocese.) has records from the parish of Mokre. Unfortunately, birth& baptism records begin in1866. Marriages begin in 1761 and go through 1933 but ecclesiastical marriage records before the mid-19th Century seldom include the names of the parents of the bride and the groom. Anyway, the records from the Archives of the Archdiocese of Toruń are not digitized and are not online. For whatever it is worth here is a link to the Archives of the Archdiocese of Toruń http://www.archiwum.diecezja.torun.pl/

Wishing you the best,

Here you can find some birth and marriage records: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/375821?availability=Family%20History%20Library

Wow! Thanks for the link. This link has helped me incredibly. I located a baptism I needed to prove a mother's maiden name. However, do you know where I would find baptisms from before 1866? The marriage records are great, but don't list any parent's names on them. Thank you so much for the help.

Nick

Unfortunately I don't know where you can find baptisms before 1866 - earlier records are not available in the archdiocesan archives. If they still exist and haven't been destroyed/lost, they may be in the parish: https://mokre.parafia.net.pl/kontakt

Good luck with your research!
I have tried searching for my Kirstein family in the town of Białochowo, Gmina Rogozno in Grudziądz. All of the children and parents list the birth place as Białochowo on church documents from St. Stanislaus Kostka. However, I haven't been able to find any further. The subject Kirchenbuch, 1622-1919 on familysearch (Germany, Prussia, West Prussia, Catholic and Lutheran Church Records, 1537-1981) hasn't listed any documents.

Białochowo was apart of Graudenz (formerly Burg Belchau) in West Prussia. Towns nearby are Brudy, Bukowiec, Gubiny, Klodka, etc.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bia%C5%82ochowo

Is there anyone who knows any information on this town or where to find records?

At first, I was thinking it could be Białachowo in Stargard, Pomerania. However, the church records specifically point out "Graudenz". I've tried variants of the surname: Kierstein, Kirsztajn, Kiersztein, Kerszteyn, Kyrsztain, Kirstam, etc.

Any info appreciated, thanks!
