No. 6 Grądy
It happened in the village Nowogród, on March 25, 1916 at 11 a.m. Appeared Konstanty Nurczyk, a farmer 48 years old from Grądy, in the presence of Stanisław Zieliński, 30 years old and Wawrzyniec Zieliński 53 years old, both farmers from Grądy, and presented Us a male infant child, who was born in Grądy on March 20th at 11 p.m., to his wife Zofia nee Wiska, 38 years old.
At The Holy Baptism, held today, the child was given the name Marian Józef and the godparents were: Antoni Skowronek and Józefa Rachubka
This act was read to the declarant and the witnesses and it was signed by Us onl because the father of the child and the witnesses were illiterate.

14.01.1899 - Marianna
20.10.1900 - Władysława
20.03.1911 - Bolesław
20.03.1916 - Marian Jozef
All were born in Grądy parish Nowogród.

Marian Jozef was born March 20, 1916 in Grądy parish Nowogród. Died in Teresin June 12, 1991. I have his birth record if you want it.

The one brother's birth record I can't find is his brother Marion. He was born March 20,1916 and became a Franciscan Friar(Brother Ancient) at the Niepokalanów monastery in Teresin outside of Warsaw.. I have received a lot of information from the monastery and quite a few photos, but have never been able to locate his birth record.
Someone did write. to the parish in Grady for me, but was unable to locate his records.

Hi Joanne,
Correct. He was born on October 16, 1897 in Grądy in the parish of Nowogród. I found his 3 siblings.
Wiktor's father, Konstanty was born on March 12, 1869 in Grądy too.

Thank you! My 93 year old dad was over the moon with the 1926 class list containing the signature of his uncle Marian. Looking back at census records and my dad's and aunt's birth certificates, it looks like my grandfather was born in 1898.

The date of birth in the military record adds confusion. I noted that the Find A Grave for Victor Norskey showed a birth date of Nov 12, 1899 which would have made him only 13 when he came to America in July of 1913. If you used the date on his military record of September 1897, he would have been 15. I would tend to look for his birth in the 1897 to 1899 range.

This sounds very similiar to the confusion about both of my grandfather's birth dates. One of them also made himself older when he came to America as a teen.

JL, Per the 1930 and 1040 census it appear that your grandfather was naturalized. Any luck finding your his naturalization record? It would be interesting to see how the place of birth was recorded.

Sophia picked up that Konstanty Nurczyk and Zofia Wiska married in Szczepankowo parish, a neighboring village to Nowogrod. Looking at Szczepankowo on Geneteka, it appears there are a number of Wiski and Wiska names there. If this was Zofia's parish, it is possible that she went to be with family to give birth. Based on that possibility, I looked for unindexed records for Szczepankowo parish.

Maybe somebody else can chime in to confirm I found the right group of records.

If you can have somebody write the Nurczyk name out in Russian, you can look through the births to see if something matches for your grandfather. SkU is the index page. And of course, there can be human error in the indexes. I can't read Polish or Russian, but when I was looking for my grandfather's birth, I was sucessful in finding a sibling this way, one that I had no idea existed.

You can get Russian translations here on this forum. https://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=3525 That might be another way to have somebody help you check to see if Wiktor Nurczyk's birth is listed in the parish in 1899.

By the way, I have also found some records along the way where the first names did not match at all, but the record was the correct one. I guess later the went by a nickname or a middle name instead. I also found birthdates were different than what family information said they should be.
