my maternal great-grandmother's surname is Paschek, her grandfather was Leopold Paschek, born in Opava (Troppau/Opawa) on 11 November 1822.

Perhaps his name is of Polish origin, only with German spelling. Do you think it is possible?

If so, what could be the original Polish name?

Thank you. Attila

Hello Attila,
Polish sounding version of surname Paschek is PASZEK. Genetyka says they have over 5,300 indexes for the surname Paszek. It is quite popular. Almost 4,000 come from Voivodeship Slaskie (Silesia), which is located in the south of Poland and borders the Czech Republic and Opava. So, yes you can find some relatives in Poland.
