I may be wrong, but I doubt that the Katarzyna Bialon or Biaton who died in Minnesta is the Katarzyna we are looking for. According to the church marriage record that I posted above, her maiden name was Luberda and her parents were Michal Luberda and Apolonia Wrobel. Also, this husband's name is John, while Katarzyna Luberda's husband's name was Jozef. His parents were Andrzej Bialun or Biatun and Anna Kaczor. I'm sure the records are somewhere out there, but they are hiding pretty well ...

It might help if you had the proper spelling. It should be Wojciech In Polish, or Albert or Adalbert in English. George is Jerzy in Polish

is it possible that the Nellie you mention is the daughter-in-law of your great-grandparents? Their son John C. Luberda married Eleanora, nee Drwenski. Perhaps Eleanora was called "Nellie"?

I found obituaries in the Chicago Tribune Historical Archive for:
George Luberda, died 1948-01-14, and Anna Luberda, nee Dziurdzik, died 1970-11-15.

I also found obituaries for their children:
John C. Luberda, married to Eleanora, nee Drwenski, died 1975-03-10;
Stanley Luberda, married to Anne Monzella (she died before him); he died 1968-08-30, lived in Dayton, Ohio;
Edward J. Luberda, died 1979-07-04;
Ann P. Luberda, died 1983-11-21.

No obits for their children:
Rose Luberda, married to Stanley Kowalewski;
Helen Luberda, married to John Kluch;
Julia Luberda, married to Chester Arkus;
and Lillian Luberda.

NO trace of Katarzyna Luberda and her husband though. Wonder if she/they returned to Poland.

I don't know if Nellie and Katarzyn are the same person. One of my relatives was called Nellie, her original name was Amelia. Perhaps Katarzyna changed her name to Nellie because she liked it better than Katarzyna. It will require a little more research to find out. Unfortunately, I cannot help you with this issue as I don't have access to census images, etc. However, I checked the Chicago Historical Archive and saw that there are quite a few Luberda obituaries. Obituaries can be very helpful because most times they list the names of family members left behind, including the names of spouses, etc. I'll check them this evening or tomorrow for you when when I have more time.

I am still not sure about Katarzyna because in the 1910 census I have that Wojeiech, Frank and "Nellie" were living together with a few different people, is it possible Nellie and Katarzyn are the same person? I also notice that Katarzyna's future husband is there in 1910 as well, but cant find Nellie anywhere else? as we found earlier in this post that Bartlomiej Luberda also had a father Michael Luberda so there's no telling with Pjotr at this point.. i'd love to see the marriage records though! You're welcome. I'm glad that I'm able to help you in your research. As I mentioned in my earlier post, there were more Luberda marriages in Chicago. I checked the respective church marriage records for the names of the the parents and found two more Luberdas from Obidowa whose father was Michal Luberda. The other Luberdas don't seem to have been from the district of Nowy Targ.

I found another son of Michal Luberda and Apolonia Wrobel: Luberda, John (Jan) who married Bubis, Maria on Sept. 05, 1905 at St. John Cantius Church, Chicago:
Jan Luberda was from Obidowa in the district of Nowy Targ, he was the son of Michal Luberda and Apolonia Wrobel. He married Marianna Bubis from Lasek in the district of Nowy Targ. She was the daughter of Joannis (Jan) Bubis and Katherina (Katarzyna) Kaleta or Kalata. Witnesses were Stanislaw Kulczik and Joanne Jarog or Jorog.

And another Luberda from Obidowa whose father was Michal Luberda, but his mother's name was Marianna Skoda:
Luberda, Pjotr who married Wlodarczyk, Rose on Sept 01, 1903 at St. John Cantius Church, Chicago.
Pjotr Luberda was from Obidowa in the district of Nowy Targ, he was the son of Michal Luberda and Marianna Skoda. He married Rozalia Wlodarczyk from Lasek in the district of Nowy Targ. She was the daughter of Michal Wlodarczyk and Maryanna Brozina. Witnesses were Wojciech Szeliga [spelling?] and Jozef Brgacz.

So there was either another Michal Luberda in Obidowa or Michal Luberda was married twice, to Apolonia Wrobel and to Maryanna Skoda, and the son Pjotr was from the marriage to Maryanna Skoda. I don't know how old Pjotr was at time of marriage, the church marriage record didn't give his age, but the marriage licence should give the age of bride and groom. I'll try to find it for you, and if I find it, I'll post it together with the two church marriage records tomorrow.

Polish language has seven or eight declensions (vocative, nominative, accusative, etc...) which means a word (first names or surnames, too!) changes accordingly to their position/function in a sentence. When you put your eyes on your ancestors' polish records you will see a lot of this.
Just to get you encouraged my surname can be presented as Magrowski, Magrowska, Magrowskiego, Magrowskiej, Magrowskiem, Magrowskich and Magrowscy. Jozef is presented as Jozefa, and Jozefa is presented as Jozefy. And so it goes. Reading (or should I say deciphering ?) handwritten names becomes easier as long as you get familiar familiar with the clerk's penmanship.

Let me "translate" the church marriage records for you that I posted yesterday. Normally I do that right away when I post such a record, because I know not everybody is familiar with reading church marriage records in Latin, and the names are sometimes hard to read, but yesterday I was in a hurry and didn’t take the time. The records of the Luberda marriages show that:

1. Wojciech Luberda and Anna Dziurdzik were married on 25 May 1909 at John Cantius Church, Chicago. Wojciech Luberda is indexed as Luberda, Albert in the Marriage Index for Polish Parishes in Chicago through 1915.

Wojciech Luberda was from Obidowa in the district of Nowy Targ, he was the son of Michal Luberda and Apolonia Wrobel. He was baptized in Klikuszowa on 7 Sep 1887.

Anna Dziurdzik was from Klikuszowa in the district of Nowy Targ, she was the daughter of Wojciech Dziurdzik and Katarzyna Szewczyk. She was baptized in Klikuszowa on 28 Sep 1890.
Marriage witnesses were Jan Chudoba and Jan Orawiec.

2. Bartlomiej Luberda and Zuzanna Sojka were married on 14 Feb 1911 at John Cantius Church, Chicago. Bartlomiej Luberda is indexed as Luberda, Bart, Zuzanna Sojka is indexed as Sojka, Susan in the Marriage Index for Polish Parishes in Chicago through 1915.

Bartlomiej Luberda was from Nowy Targ, he was the son of Michal Luberda and Maryanna Truta. He was baptized in Nowy Targ on 15 Apr 1888;
Zuzanna Sojka was from Krauszow in the district of Nowy Targ, she was the daughter of Franciszek Sojka and Wiktorya Guzy. She was baptized on 6 Aug 1888 in Ludzmierz
Marriage witnesses were Kazimierz Gacek and Andrzej Sojka.

3. Katarzyna Luberda and Jozef Bialun or Biatun were married on 15 Feb 1911 at St. John Cantius Church, Chicago. Katarzyna Luberda is indexed as Luberda, Kathryn in the Marriage Index for Polish Parishes in Chicago through 1915.

Jozef Bialun or Biatun was from Klikuszowa in the district of Nowy Targ, he was the son of Andrzej Bialun or Biatun and Anna Kaczor. He was baptized in Klikuszowa on 18 Dec 1888.
Katarzyna Luberda was from Obidowa in the district of Nowy Targ, she was the daughter of Michal Luberda and Apolonia Wrobel. She was baptized in Klikuszowa on Feb 3, 1889.
Marriage witnesses were Jozef Mrozek and Stanislaw Jaruch.

4. Franciszek Luberda and Anna Krolczyk were married on 6 Sept 1910 at St. John Cantius Church, Chicago. Franciszek Luberda is indexed as Luberda, Frank in the Marriage Index for Polish Parishes in Chicago through 1915.

Franciszek Luberda was from “Gobidowo” (Obidowa) in the district of Nowy Targ, he was the son of Michal Luberda and Apolonia Wrobel. He was baptized in Klikuszowa on 12 Dec 1886.
Anna Krolczyl was from Ochotnica in the district of Nowy Targ, she was the daughter of Franciszek Krolczyk and Rozalia Polak. She was baptized in Ochotnica on 2 Aug 1890.
Marriage witnesses were Jozef Bialon and Jozef Mrozek.

There were more Luberda marriages in Chicago.

Putting together all the available information, this means that
Wojciech Luberda b 1887 was the son of Michal Luberda and Apolonia Wrobel from Obidowa; Anna Dziurdzik b 1890 was the daughter of Wojciech Dziurdzik and Katarzyna Szewczyk from Klikuszowa;
Katarzyna Luberda b 1889 was the daughter of Michal Luberda and Apolonia Wrobel from Obidowa;
Franciszek Luberda b 1886 was the son of Michal Luberda and Apolonia Wrobel from Obidowa;
Bartlomiej Luberda b 1888 was the son of Michal Luberda and Maryanna Truta.

So Wojciech Luberda, Katarzyna Luberda, and Franciszek Luberda were siblings. The months, years, and places when and where they were baptized are given in the marriage records, which tells you when approx. they were born. I first thought that Bartlomiej Luberda was a half-brother of Wojciech, Katarzyna, and Franciszek Luberda, because his father's name is the same, but with a different mother. However, according to the church marriage record he was baptized 1888 in Nowy Targ, while the other children of Michal Luberda and Apolonia Wrobel were baptized (and thus born) 1886, 1887, and 1889 in Klikuszowa. So Wojciech Luberda's father, married to Maryanna Truta, is most likely another Michal Luberda.

Wojciech Luberda, Katarzyna Luberda, and Franciszek Luberda were from Obidowa and were baptized in Klikuszowa (the parish Obidowa belongs to); Anna Dziurdzik was from Klikuszowa and was baptized in Klikuszowa. The records for Obidowa should be in the Klikuszowa parish, and that’s the parish you should write to if you want to find out more about your ancestors. I don’t have the parish address, but perhaps one of our members has it and can give it to you.

The villages Obidowa and Klikuszowa are located in the district of Nowy Targ in South Poland at the foot of the Polish Tatra Mountains. Here is a map or you:

Wojciech's parents are Michał Luberda and Apoloinia Wróbel (here presented on a declensioned form)
Anna's parents are Wojciech Dziurdzik and Katarzyna Szewczyk (or Szowczyk), also declensioed.

Their parents' names are there. Look at Filium which means son of (in Latin), and Filiam which means daughter of. The father's surname is not there since it's the same as the bride or groom. The mother's maiden name is there.
