Hi Jane,

Welcome to our forum. I found this website and discussion forum in 2008 while I was preparing for my first trip to Poland. I could not find information about my family through sources available in the USA, so I needed to travel to Poland if I wanted to learn about my ancestors. I booked a Forefather's Traces Tour with Zenon and had a great time. Thanks to that tour, I was able to go from just knowing my great-grandparent's names to having enough information to fill out my tree back to my gggg-grandparents.

I am glad that you posted your message early so we can help you as much as we can before you depart for Poland. The more you can learn before you leave, the more you will enjoy your ancestral village.

My cousin and I were just discussing a list of important items for any trip to Poland. Check this posting for a list of essential items:

You must be so excited!

Hello Everyone!

I've been searching off and on for about 15 years for informantion about my Polish grandparents' families in the area around Nowy Sacz (western Galicia) -- Mokra Wies and Przyszowa. Despite having their actual birth/baptismal documents, it is very slow going and believe I can only progress by a trip to Poland which I am considering for Spring 2013. I've gotten a little more info from my current membership in Ancestry.com, but not much.

Any advice regarding travel to (and guide) to this region of Poland would be appreciated. Also, if you have any research ideas I may have missed for this area, would be of great help.

I possess:

* both grandparents birth/baptismal docs written in Latin (1893 and 1897) about half of the info can be read

* A document taken from an actual record book (based on the fact it is a section removed from a town record keeping book) written in Polish. I had it translated (poorly) and it appears to relate to the ability of my grandfather's oldest brother who remained in Poland to sell or mortgage his siblings' (who immigrated to US) inheritance of land. This was resolved following WWI.

* Letters from a local Polish priestto my father from the late 1960s to 1970 written in Polish. This is confusing because they have the return address of a woman who I believe send a picture of the home of my grandfather and also one of her home. I don't know if this is a relative.

* Polish prists who came to my Polish Catholic church in the Cleveland, OH suburbs swore they thought we (Gomolka) were "family" with W. Gomulka, former head of the Polish Communist party, based on my grandfather's quite similar appreance to this man. (They were not from the same town, but probably within 50 miles max.)

* Gomolka family was supposed to breed/raise horses.

* Krzak g-grandfather was supposed to be some sort of official in the area.

* Both families were land owners.

This is info will probably not be enough to associate my family with any of you, but maybe those who have a business running research tours may find this enough to recommend how to be assistance for me to travel next year.

I look froward to being part of this group.
