Genealogy research can really turn into detective work sometimes. Old church records, immigration documents, and even small spelling variations in surnames can make a huge difference when tracing family history.

Polish records can be really challenging because spelling and borders changed so much over the years. I’ve found that checking nearby parishes and looking for alternate spellings of surnames sometimes uncovers records that seemed impossible to find at first. Old maps can help a lot too.

Hi LuAnn,
I am glad you posted the question. Frankly, I don't think anyone would be able to actually READ that town name on that document, including the very person who wrote it all those years ago. We can only deduce what it might be, and that only because you had posted your other question about Miedzyrzeca. That was a bit of good luck!
All the best,
Hi LuAnn and Barb,
Just going by instinct, here, but I believe the page of death records is, in itself, not the primary record. I believe that there were individual death records given to someone who wrote it all down in a ledger. LuAnn, if you scroll page by page through them, you might tell me if you share that opinion - - is it very uniform handwriting, all by the same person? And if you scroll through and see other people who were from European countries, do any of them include the word "Europe" in the line for birthplace of deceased? I ask this because I have a hunch that this scribe saw a written document that said "Russian Empire" and read it as "Russia Europe." This makes me think that there will be problems with the spelling of the name of the town, too. Certainly, I read the first letter as M based on other capital M's on the page. It is a long name for a town. I can't help but wonder, is it possible that we are right back to Miedzyrzeca? When I go to Geneteka, there are many people with the surname Kieruczenko in Miedzyrzeca.
What do you think?
It's from a death registration and the line that I underlined is "Birthplace of deceased". I'm assuming it's in Eastern Poland because she died in 1898 and that would have been the "Russian" section.

Hi Barb,
No, I think line 2 says "Farming."
We need to look at words underlined in red.
Hi LuAnn,
I do not have a guess at the moment, but rather a question. Whatever this document is, are you able to tell from entries for other people elsewhere in the same type of document, that what is written on this line is going to be the name of a town?
Thanks,
