My second cousin married a John Twarog in Ohio. They lived in Brunswick, Ohio. John was born in 1926. My second cousin passed away in 2018. I am doing research on the family, too. Stusha

Brian , I don’t know where the village is, that you were looking for. But I do know that in a small village, by the name of Niepla, near Szebnie Poland. There is an old family name of Twarog. I am researching Kowalczyk, Fortuna, Betlej, Macek among others and I often see the name Twarog in my research.
Brian, If you have his Polish reply in an email, go to Google Translate and copy/paste his reply in.
Much to my surprise (happily), I already received a response from Stanisław Twaróg! I sent my original brief email to him in English, but I also included a few sentences in Polish which I copied from Polish letter writing guides on polishroots.org. I don't speak or read Polish, unfortunately.

His response was entirely in Polish, so I'm wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me translate? I'm pretty sure I understand the majority of his reply by using Google Translate, but some of it does not make sense. If anyone is abe to help, please send me a PM.

From what I understand, it seems he does not know about his family history but is willing to help me.

Thank you,
Hi Shellie,

Wow, you've done some great Googling . I've searched several different ways over the years but still didn't turn up the links you provided above. Thank you!

I have tried direct messages to Twarogs I found on Facebook in Poland, but to date only 1 has responded. Unfortunately he'd never heard of Jaszczew but said he would ask his father about their ancestry. Your suggestion reminded me to ask him again since it's now been 6 months since our last contact. I will also be emailing Stanislaw Twarog now that you've found him for me.

That book looks very interesting - something else for me to look into!

                                      Brian,
Have you attempted to email any Twarog families in Jastrzew? A few pop up if you Goggle Twarog and Jastrzew. For example Stanisław Twaróg is a dog breeder in Jastrzew. If you visit his webpage, his email address is included in the contact info: http://zgalicyjskiegojaru.republika.pl/index.html

I have had some success with direct emails or messages by Facebook to people with my family surname. In fact, several of these contacts turned out to be cousins after we put all the clues together!

Oh, and it looks like a possible cousin of yours authored a book on the history of Jasczew (same as Jastrzew?):
http://books.google.com/books/about/Dzieje_Jaszczwi.html?id=lhNYcgAACAAJ
Hi everyone,

One of my ancestral lines I have had the least success researching is the Twarog family. I am posting this message to see if anyone else is doing researching in the same area of Poland so we might share findings.

Here is what I know:

My great grandfather was Jan (John) Twarog and he came to America in approximately 1896. I have not been able to locate his immigration/passenger record, but census information indicates he arrived close to this year. He settled in the Ludlow/Chicopee area of Massachusetts and married Suzanna Sarad in 1899. They had 9 children before John died in 1914.

On the baptismal records for several of their children, his hometown is listed as "Jastrzew". There was another Twarog family in the Chicopee area: Daniel Twarog and his wife Apollonia. Although I have not been able to establish a relationship to my family, I believe they are somehow related. Daniel was among the earliest Polish immigrants in the area, and newspaper articles list his hometown as Jaszczew.

It seems there are no LDS films for the Szebnie parish. I have written a letter to the parish priest seeking information, but so far (7 months and counting) I have not received a reply. About a month ago I sent an email to the Polish State Archives in Rzeszow (still waiting for a response).

So now I am reaching out to others on this forum for ideas or suggestions. Is anyone else searching for family in this area?
