I have been trying many things on the <span>SayExpressivo site with some very interesting results. I have a ship manifest that lists my great grandmother's surname as Tuburska rather than Deborski. For a long time family stories indicated that the surname had been changed from the original Polish. Using the </span>
<span>Moikrewni website, I learned that both Deborski and Dęborski are extremely rare, but that Tuburski/Tuburska and Tyburski/Tyburska are more common and are concentrated near Rypin where I have found other family connections. Entering Deborski and Tyburski in the SayExpressivo site, they sound very close to one another. I think somewhere along the line the name was recorded as it was heard phonetically.</span>

I think the pronunciation is of a similar (identical?) standard to Ivona?
Your 'maybe a few new readers who have not browsed the surname section will find this topic and discover the tool' is a very valid point indeed - some sites cannot be 'advertised' too much
Thanks Slav for the film extract - German film with Polish subtitles!! Despite which I can understand what is going on Which reminds me, I like the way road signs in Germany still show the name Stettin...

There is a famous line in a Polish comedy How I Unleashed World War II where the main protagonist is captured by the Gestapo and the officer tries to record his name and birth place. The witty Pole makes fools out of his captors by introducing himself as:

There is another dictionary on the web http://glosbe.com/en/pl/ some may find useful. Click on speaker icon right next to the translated word to hear pronounciation. Not all words have its coresponding sounds, but these available are articualted by real pple.

I agree with Slav, SayExpressivo sounds more natural. However google translate is not that bad, all Poles would understood if you were speaking like google .

Between SayExpressivo and Google, which do you think sounds closer to your mother tongue? I have just compared a three-line message between them and SayExpressivo is pronounced in a more fluent way, but I don't know if it is more accurated.

Ha! You are always on top of things Zenon! If I had bothered to read the surname forum I could have saved you the trouble of replying!

But maybe a few new readers who have not browsed the surname section will find this topic and discover the tool. I really think it's fun to use. Maybe when we finally meet again in person, I'll actually be able to pronounce some good Polish words

In my opinion Polish pronunciation quality of the tool is very good.

I have been using it for some time in the posts explaining Surnames origins and meaning (e.g. the last surname explanation here: http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?p=1219#1219 ) . And when I read post and comments in Past Prologue blog by Donna here: http://pastprologue.wordpress.com/2009/11/12/say-it-in-polish/ I think it may not only be helpful but it can also give a lot of of fun .

I stumbled on this website called the Expressivo Text to Speech Reader Service.

You can either type in, or cut and paste your polish words, phrases, or other Polish Text and choose the voice to pronounce it. There are 6 choices and TWO of them are polish, one male and one female.

I found this quite helpful because I can not prounce one word of Polish. I'd like to hear some comments from Zenon and others about the accuracy of this tool............. anyone?
