Slav, you are probably correct. I am unfamiliar with the correct spelling. I know the name is actually Lithuanian, but my father always considered himself Polish. Thank you for moving the post.

I am the youngest son of Leonard Szlamas. I believe he was from Vilnos and was born April 1912. He was a Lieutenant in the 1st Armoured Division and recieved many honors and medals, one of which was the Virtuti Militari. Unfortunately, my father never spoke of the war, or his time in Poland. After the war, he lived in England, then came to USA in 1954. He passed away in 1981. All I know is, He was one of five children, so I believe I have cousins, uncles, aunts and I know he was married before the war and I also may have a step brother and sister somewhere in Poland. I was told prior to the war, he competed in weight lifting competitions, but I do not know any other occupation information. I would very much like to know my fathers history, family history and war experiences. I have not had much success in obtaining this since there is so little information to start with. I would also like to know if I have extended family. I hope anyone looking at the surname, may share any information they may have. Piotr Szlamas
