Hi Karen,

I wish you were having better luck finding them. I was trying to think of some other avenue for you to pursue, and the only thing I have come up with is increased flexibility in how you spell the names.

For your Mordka, I also see spellings like Mordke and Mordche, and I think you should also consider Mordecai or Mordechai.

You have mentioned your family's name written as both Sznajchendler and Schneigendler. Is there any possibility that it was actually a hyphenated name? When I look at surnames on Ellis Island there are a few hyphenated Schneider names such as Chaim Schneider-Mechaniker and Amalia Schneider Koch but I don't know how common it was for people to do that. I suggest it, though, because the surname Handler / Haendler / Hendler is not rare. So could she be Sara Sznaj Hendler or some such thing? I also saw on Ellis Island a Sibilla Schneiderhainge (on a subsequent trip it changes to Schneiderhainze) and this is the closest thing I have found to your spelling.

I really do hope you are able to resolve it.

Sorry you didn't get a reply from me, but your post got drowned in spam that took over the Forum. I've gotten replies from 2 places. They can't track down your great grandmother. Mainly because the resources aren't digitized, and the archives don't have the capacity to go through page by page. I'm waiting for a reply from the third place I sent a request to, but I think I'll get a similar response. USC in Poland can provide access to documents but doesn't work as an archivist. They need a specific date and location to find the document.

I got a reply from USC Warsaw Bemowo, where I sent an order for Sara's birth record. Received a reply that such old documents are not kept for long in USC. They advised me to contact the Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw (Archiwum Główne Akt Dawnych).

Hi Karen,
I found nothing interesting in the link uploaded by Sophia.
So I sent an application to the Civil Registry Office in Warszawa for the issuance of Sara's birth certificate. This was a bit complicated because I don't live in Poland and had to sort out a lot of documents and confirmations to apply.
I mentioned that Sara was my distant relative. I'll let you know when I get an answer.

I have no information about my grandparents' wedding. My grandmother married twice, first to Abram Fiszman and second to Szmul Blutstein. I am only aware of details about the second marriage (2 April 1948 in Bad Reichenhall) to Szmul Blutstein. There was one child born from the second marriage, so my father's half sister.

My father (Salek Fischman) had one brother (Moniek Fischman, now deceased) born 28 May 1934. My father was the oldest of the two.

Hi everyone,
I can try to contact USC and ask how this can be ordered. You have to remember that USC is not an Archive. You can order documents that you can provide dates for. I assume you can order your father's birth certificate, because you know his full date of birth. There, only his parents are mentioned.
For you, the document that gives the most information would be your grandparents' wedding. Since your father was born in 1933, it took place before that. Do you know anything about your father's siblings? Was he the oldest?
